    Reporting to the Leadership Development team, the Leadership & Social Change Fellow (LSCF) is a 12-month AmeriCorps VISTA position. “AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members bring passion and perseverance where the need is greatest: to organizations that help eradicate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to meet our nation's most pressing challenges and advance local solutions.”

    The LSCF will be responsible for working with the Leadership Development team to design, pilot, and evaluate WEPOWER's Leadership Development and community change model that works with Black and Latinx community members to develop their leadership skills, create innovative solutions to address educational and economic inequity, and take action to bring about those solutions.

    AFTER THE FIRST 12 MONTHS, WE WILL CELEBRATE...

    1. Research, design, and pilot a two-year leadership development program that prepares community members for leading change across early childhood education.
    2. Research and design a two-year leadership development program that prepares community members for stepping into professional careers where they advance change in education and economic institutions and systems.

    YOU WILL...

    RESEARCH, DESIGN, AND PILOT A TWO-YEAR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT PREPARES COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR LEADING CHANGE ACROSS EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. (50%)

    • Research models of effective leadership development.
    • Research models on how to effective drive social change.
    • Develop a report of research findings, recommended practices, and potential partners.
    • Work with the Leadership Development team to design the model based on the recommendations from the report.
    • Pilot the leadership development model with cohorts of community members.
    • Design, pilot, and revise a logistical and operations plan to ensure strong backend infrastructure and sustainability for the leadership development programming.

    RESEARCH AND DESIGN A TWO-YEAR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT PREPARES COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR STEPPING INTO PROFESSIONAL CAREERS WHERE THEY ADVANCE CHANGE IN AND EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC INSTITUTIONS AND SYSTEMS. (50%)

    • Research models of effective career and professional development.
    • Research practices and strategies for getting people placed into high impact social change careers.
    • Develop a report of research findings, recommended practices, and potential partners.
    • Work with the Leadership Development team to design the model based on the recommendations from the report.
    • Work with the Leadership Development team to form partnership with institutions of higher education to coordinate a certification program for community members who participate in the program.
    • Work with the Leadership Development team to design a strong recruitment and selection plan.
    • Pilot the newly designed recruitment and selection plan.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The LSCF will have the flexibility to recruit, select, and supervise interns, practicum students, fellows, and volunteers.

    As a startup, WEPOWER demands extreme commitment and agility, AND we value each team member's personal life circumstances and priorities.     There will be 24-hour access to a co-working space with printing, conference rooms, phone booths, snacks, drinks, and the opportunity to be in community with other innovators, entrepreneurs, and entrepreneur support organizations.

    COMPENSATION

    VISTAs are technically considered volunteers. As a VISTA member, you receive a bi-weekly living allowance, an education award of $6,095 to support current student loan debt or to go towards future educational endeavors.
