    Job Description

    Reports To: Director of Preschool

    Salary Review: Annually by Executive Team

    Hours: Part-Time

    POSITION OBJECTIVE

    Assistant Teachers affirm the identity, mission, and vision of Word of Peace by assisting the classroom teachers in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for young children. Assistant teachers provide a welcoming, safe, and loving environment where we accept each child as a unique individual, created and loved by God.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote children's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth of children.

    Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where each child feels valued, respected, and supported their needs.

    Engage children in age-appropriate learning experiences, including circle time, arts and crafts, music, sensory play, and outdoor activities.

    Foster positive and effective communication with parents, providing regular updates on their child's progress, behavior, and any concerns or achievements.

    Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, adhering to health and safety regulations, including sanitizing toys and equipment and monitoring children's interactions to ensure a safe and secure environment.

    Assist with mealtime routines, including meal preparation, serving, and promoting healthy eating habits.

    Support children during restroom breaks and promote independence in self-care tasks, such as handwashing and toileting.

    Provide emotional support and guidance to children, helping them develop self-regulation skills and conflict-resolution strategies.

    Collaborate with the classroom teachers and other staff members to evaluate and assess children's progress and development, and participate in parent-teacher conferences and staff meetings.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    Classroom Environment: Set up and maintain an organized, clean, and stimulating learning environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Arrange and utilize materials, resources, and equipment to enhance learning opportunities.

    Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other preschool teachers and staff to plan and implement special events, programs, and activities. Share ideas, resources, and best practices to support a cohesive and enriching preschool experience.

    Professional Development: Stay current with research, trends, and best practices in early childhood education. Attend workshops, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

    Classroom Administration: Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and other required documentation. Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing materials, managing supplies, and maintaining inventory.

    Safety and Welfare: Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of children at all times. Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures. Provide care and assistance during mealtimes and outdoor play.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma.

    Meets the Minnesota requirements for DHS Rule 3 assistant teacher, including:

    Completion of 2,080 hours as a teacher aide or student intern.

    Possession of 12 quarter Education credits.

    Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.

    Previous experience working with young children in a preschool or daycare setting is preferred.

    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

    Reliable, punctual, and responsible with excellent organizational skills.

    CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification).

    Supports the mission, vision, and theology of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

    Supports Word of Peace's mission-based church philosophy.
