General Purpose
Performs a variety of journey and apprentice level labor and maintenance duties to operate and maintain the City's Water Reclamation Facility.
Reporting Relationships
Supervision Received: The WRF Worker I works under the general supervision of the Public Utilities Director.

Essential Functions
- Participates in general maintenance, repair, and operation of Moab Water Reclamation facility.
- Takes readings and records all gauges, meters and indicators of sewage, water, gas, and power flow, and makes the required adjustments to ensure that each stage of the process is functioning properly.
- Performs water sampling as required by discharge permit, EPA, State Health, and Division of Water Quality; conducts necessary on-site tests; coordinates necessary off-site tests.
- Maintains daily records relating to influent volume, recirculation, temperature of sludge, etc., for future reference and to meet Federal and state requirements.
- Makes routine and general repairs or adjustments to equipment or circuits when required; operates chemical feeding equipment and various manual equipment such as pumps, blowers, and air compressors; assists in performing necessary work to keep structures, equipment, buildings, and grounds neat and clean in appearance.
- Checks and services assigned equipment as directed.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Portrays a positive public image and works with the public and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- May assist in maintaining, constructing, and repairing streets, sidewalks, water meters/lines, and other public facilities.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned by the Public Utilities Director.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent, and
- One (1) year of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer facilities including engines, pumps, motors and other machinery and mechanical equipment, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Journey level proficiency of electrical, plumbing, and construction.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform light and heavy labor, such as moving furniture and receiving supplies.
- Basic knowledge of job related tools, and OSHA safety regulations.
Special Qualifications
Must obtain within six months and maintain:
- Class B commercial driver license (CDL);
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification;
- Flagger Certification
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The WRF Worker I works in variable weather and physical conditions. The WRF Worker I may work in variable and hazardous traffic conditions wearing appropriate safety equipment. The WRF Worker I is regularly exposed to human waste, chemicals normally used in the operation of a water reclamation facility, and other potentially hazardous substances. Tasks may involve muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting up to 25-50 pounds. Talking, hearing, and seeing are necessary to perform the most essential duties. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
Selection Guidelines
