    WASHINGTON STATE NURSES ASSOCIATION

    PROJECT ORGANIZER – Seattle/Greater Puget Sound Region

    We are seeking a candidate with a strong commitment to social and economic justice and the labor movement to organize workers to join our union.  This is an entry-level project organizer position. 

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supports organizing campaigns including, but not limited to:

    • Educating, engaging and mobilizing workers around issues;
    • Conducting one-on-one organizing conversations;
    • Identifying strong organizing issues;
    • Identifying, recruiting and developing leaders and activist;
    • Organizing meeting and event turnout;
    • Facilitating and running individual and group meetings;
    • Mentoring and managing worker committees;
    • Training and mentoring of volunteer member organizers;
    • Developing written communication;
    • Visiting hospitals and other clinical settings and conducting home visits;
    • Promoting membership in WSNA by making membership asks.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Baccalaureate degree preferred
    • Familiarity with nursing and health care desired
    • Previous organizing experience a plus

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

    • Self-directed, take initiative and work independently.
    • Personal experience as a union member, activist, or volunteer leader preferred.
    • Proficient in writing and speaking to multiple audiences.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
    • Able to handle multiple priorities, organize workload.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job requires:

    • Ability to work in field-based assignment locations, move about inside the WSNA office or other locations to access files, equipment and personnel.
    • Ability to travel extensively, work flexible hours and accept overnight stays with some travel.
    • Ability to cope with occasional outside events where extreme weather conditions may occur.
    • Ability to frequently move material and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds for various events.
    • A valid driver's license in the state of residence and access to an operational motor vehicle that is currently insured.
