  • Responsibilities

    The VP, Data is a key member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the utilization, quality, stewardship and governance of data across the enterprise. This key leadership role will plan, strategize and organize data functions to establish an enterprise data strategy in order to drive the data vision and strategic business objectives. The VP, Data will build and drive execution of the road map to leverage data as a strategic asset.

    Required Skills

    • Work in collaboration with key stakeholders, such as Technology and Analytics to lead the establishment of an enterprise wide data strategy for all aspects of the data lifecycle. Define polices, standards, data domains and processes extending to all areas of data Management. Ultimately the data strategy should yield tangible business value, including enhanced client service, business growth through insights, timely responses to data queries, data security, and a high degree of data quality.

    • Build, lead, develop and mentor a team of data professionals to be a high-performing, high-contributing team that delivers a high degree of value to the firm.

    • Define the vision, objectives, priorities and scope for the Data Team including establishment of information in asset management best practices for standardization, utilization and quality to foster an enterprise view in establishing this practice.

    • Collaborate closely with the Technology team to assess technologies and design cloud-based data and technical architectures to increase business agility, reduce costs and manage complexity. 

    • Collaborate with the Analytics team leadership to instill innovation through data and analytics that generates business insights resulting in tangible benefits for our clients and the firm.

    • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with business and technology leaders across all business units, the risk and compliance teams, enterprise shared services and key stakeholders to ensure a strong understanding and adoption of the standards and expectations of the enterprise data program.

    • Define and oversee enterprise data governance and effectively prioritize, budget and manage timelines and expectations. Additionally, define and maintain the methods by which the governance model is supervised by the organization.

    • Establish the oversight mechanism for data management funding and execution within the organization and collaborate across the enterprise to establish clear ownership of data.

    • Define measurement and KPIs to measure success and progress tracking/benchmarking for data management against defined objectives.

    • Work with leadership and HR Business Partners to identify skills and capabilities required for firmwide data governance roles. Work to place team members in roles with the right skillsets to support long term, sustainable and effective data management for the enterprise and define roles and responsibilities related to data management as well as train stakeholders on a data-driven culture

    • Resolve prioritization, workflow and assignment conflicts and approve decisions involving shared or critical data.

    • Responsible for validating the level of specification, business driver alignment and prioritization of data requirements against data domains.

    • Partner closely with the Cybersecurity Team to ensure data is protected and security standards are maintained.

    Required Experience

    • 10 years of experience in data management, architecture, business intelligence or data governance/data quality

    • Strong knowledge of the financial services industry and business data domains and processes

    • Experience with financial management, compliance and regulatory requirements, program management, change management and risk management

    • Highly experienced in negotiation, influencing, creating buy-in and conflict management

    • Demonstrated thought leadership, diplomacy, and strategic thinking

    • Knowledge of data management disciplines such as data governance and quality, business intelligence, data architecture and strategy, data security and privacy, data integration, master data management, data engineering, feature engineering and metadata management

    • Ability to lead data domain executives and other stakeholders to adopt business processes and systems supporting governance requirements

    • Demonstrated ability to build a cohesive, highly effective and highly performing team

    • Partner with key stakeholders and other functional areas to accomplish key goals and objectives that align with the business.

     

     PREFERRED:

    • Familiarity with Wealth Management and Asset Management data

    • Experience working with regulatory and compliance bodies (i.e. SEC, FINRA, etc.)

    • Familiarity with industry market data services (i.e. Bloomberg, Factset, S&P, Refinitiv, etc.)

    • Experience with vendor management
