Assistant Teacher in Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year Overview of Position: Assistant Teachers work collaboratively with Lead Teachers and other members of the Early Childhood Faculty/ Staff to help maintain the integrity and quality of WSP Early Childhood Programs. Ideally, a Program assistant will have training and/or experience in Waldorf education, as well as experience and/or training in working with young children. Musical and artistic abilities, kindness, warmth, patience, energy, and a genuine dedication to Waldorf education are assets for this position. Teachers will be working with children ranging in age from 3-6 years of age. Responsibilities: Early Childhood Program Assistant Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: I. Parent Responsibilities * Support Lead Teacher in developing parent/ teacher relationships II. Student/Children Responsibilities * Assisting the Lead Teacher in preparing the classroom before students arrive each morning * Participating in, and fully supporting the Lead Teacher, throughout all of the morning's activities * Cleaning and caring for the classroom and its contents * Assisting with discipline as needed, and as directed by the Lead Teacher * Helping with daily snack preparation * Working outdoors with children in all weather conditions and seasons * Assisting/ leading age-appropriate crafts and handwork projects * Modeling behavior worth of imitation * Leading the class in the event of the Lead Teacher's absence * Position requires lifting of objects/children, especially within emergency situations (i.e. emergency evacuations, injury, etc.) III. Staff Responsibilities a. Developing colleagueship with fellow teachers and staff b. Assisting in maintaining order and cleanliness in shared work spaces c. Familiarizing and/or deepening an understanding of Anthroposophy IV. Administrative Responsibilities a. Ensure one's own timesheet is complete, accurate, and signed by Lead Teacher * Maintains that all clearances and paperwork is complete and up to date * Adherence to school procedures and policies, as described in the Faculty/ Staff Handbook Qualifications: * Assistants must have a genuine interest in Waldorf Education and Pedagogy. * B.A. in Education or related fields is preferred. * Experience in working with young children. * Must be knowledgeable of physical, social, developmental and the emotional needs of children. * Completed and updated Act 33, 34 and FBI Clearances, NSOR. Pennsylvania mandated reporter training must be completed within 90 days of hire. * For Little Friends, Nursery, and Morning Garden Programs: Health and Safety Training and Pediatric CPR/First Aid training must be completed within 90 days of hire Hours and Days in School: * Arrive by 8:00 am or 15 minutes before program begins and until program dismissal duties are complete on all regular school days (3:00 to 3:15). Benefits: * Starting pay for assistants is $16.50/hour. Yearly raises for all returning assistants * 30% tuition remission available (except in Little Friends) for hourly employees with students attending WSP * Paid snow and delay days (for inclement weather) Accepting applications until positions are filled.
