    The Walker Art Center is currently seeking a CREW CHIEF to lead and oversee the Event Production show crew while assuring safe rigging practices for Performing Arts and other events.

    The Walker has one of the most active and influential contemporary performing arts programs in the country, presenting and commissioning works in dance, music, theater, and performance art.  Our William and Nadine McGuire Theater enables performers to present ambitious and technically complex works in an intimate setting.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Crew Chief of assigned events—coordinate load-in/out and oversee run crew to production manager’s schedule; coordinate with Front of House (FOH), oversee preshow sequence and communicate timing to EP, FOH, visiting crews and artists; advance and prepare line set schedule and rigging plan; serve as crew for lighting installation and operation, projection and rigging for onsite and offsite rehearsals and performances; assist in all production elements as directed by Production Manager; assist in small scenic and prop element builds; serve as internal representative—advocate for aesthetic, budget, and safety concerns
    • Supervise and maintain rigging systems, supplementary equipment and purchases; minor repairs and cleaning; coordinate and organize McGuire storage spaces among other shops; maintain McGuire theatre line set schedule while integrating multi-use nature of space; maintain rigging paperwork and drawings including annual rigging inspection and semi-annual fire-curtain tests
    • Model respectful and professional behavior, being sensitive to cultural differences, and supporting a positive and inclusive work environment

    HOURS AND COMPENSATION:

    Full-time (35 hours), Non-exempt; Salary from mid-40s to 50k, dependent on level of experience; flexibility to work some evenings and weekends is required, excellent benefits package, Walker membership and museum discount, and opportunity to work alongside talented individuals as well as support remarkable artists, events and programming

    QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

    • Either an undergraduate degree in technical theater or a minimum of three years of professional technical theatre experience including crew lead experience and familiarity with safe rigging practices
    • Working knowledge in all areas of technical production -- lighting, audio, video and data projection, carpentry and stage rigging
    • Computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office and troubleshooting for computer presentations; strong written and verbal communication skills; self-motivated; shows initiative and works well as part of a team in deadline-driven situations
    • Flexible and supportive attitude when working with artists
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and comfortable working at heights required by hydraulic lifts, extension ladders and theatrical grids
