  • Responsibilities

    The Walker Art Center seeks a part-time, volunteer Development and Special Events Intern to assist with special donor events, prospect research, and various clerical projects related to the Annual Fund/Membership team in the development department. This intern will have the opportunity to assist with logistics and support of member events, including the Walker’s annual fundraiser Avant Garden, and will also contribute to fundraising efforts for the Walker Annual Fund.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Merge, print, and file donor communication such as thank you letters, funding requests, gift receipts and pledge forms

    • Assist with planning and execution of Walker fundraising and donor events

    • Assist with mailings around exhibition openings and other special events

    • Conduct prospect research to identify possible fundraising sources

    • General filing, data entry and other administrative tasks for the Development department

      

    DURATION & HOURS:

    • August/September through November/December (up to a 4-month total duration to leading up to and following Avant Garden)

    • Average of 10-15 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend special events. Schedule is flexible and based on availability.

    QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

    • Self-study, college course work or degree in the areas of art history/humanities, business, arts administration, communications, English/composition, journalism, marketing, museum studies, and/or public relations

    • Interest in non-profit arts administration and fundraising activities

    • Experience working with numbers and doing data entry

    • Strong organizational, written and research skills

    • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships; must be comfortable working at events

    • Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite, including Outlook is essential; working knowledge of Tessitura a plus

    COMPENSATION:

    If the applicant has the option to use the internship for course credit, Walker Art Center will work with the university to fulfill requirements, as possible. While this is an unpaid internship, interns will receive a free Walker membership, free gallery admission, and discounts in the Walker’s restaurant, Esker Grove, and Shops. Complimentary and reduced tickets to select events may also be available. This is also a great opportunity to work alongside talented individuals while helping to support remarkable artists, events and programming.
