  • Responsibilities

    The Assistant will provide support to the Archives + Library Department by cataloging, creating metadata, processing, and handling reference questions.  The Assistant will be part of the Walker’s digitization team and will work with books, digitized images, and special collections with a goal of providing access to the materials through the collections management databases, library catalog, and website. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Daily Operations
      • Provide general cataloging in the library
      • Provide processing and finding aid support for the Archives
      • Handle reference questions

                             

    • Digitizing Collections Initiative
      • Provides metadata support for archival images related to the Walker’s permanent collection
      • Provides cataloging support for the Rosemary Furtak Collection of Artists books, including adding subject headings to aid in discovery

    POSITION SPECIFICS:

    • Temporary Part-Time (120 hours over 3 months), Hourly Non-Exempt , $19.00.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Recent graduate or student in a master’s degree ALA accredited library or information sciences program
    • Working knowledge of contemporary artists’ books
    • Working knowledge of archival materials including papers, photographs, and ephemera
    • Strong computer skills and experience with library systems
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work in a team and independently
    • Experience in a contemporary art museum library or archives preferred
    • Able to lift 40 lbs
