    Community Health Department Position: Environmental Health Specialist I/Environmental Health Specialist II Salary Range: EHS I: $4002 - $5356/mo. EHS II: $4413 - $5914/mo. DOQ, DOE Location: Community Health Department Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week), Benefits Apply Open until filled Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Performs detailed professional environmental health enforcement and inspection duties using independent judgment and discretion to determine compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Areas of responsibility are the programs of food protection, on-site sewage disposal, water supplies, solid waste handling, swimming pools, insect and rodent control, and epidemiology. Process permit applications, provide inspection reports, conduct food handling classes, consult, and educate clients, participate in planning, training, and response to public health emergencies. Working Conditions/Physical Abilities: Work is a mixture of office and fieldwork outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Ability to drive a vehicle, fly in an airplane, travel as required. Ability to lift 25-40 pounds, hearing, and speech ability to communicate verbally, tolerate difficult environmental conditions (odors, smoke, etc.), navigate uneven surfaces, and have manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computers, levels, and lab equipment. Minimum Qualifications: BS Degree from accredited four-year college in environmental health, sanitary science, bacteriology, public health, biology, or other closely related science. Must have a minimum of 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours of basic or natural sciences. Must have a valid driver’s license, access to insured vehicle during working hours. Certifications or registrations required at the time of hire or within three years of hire include registration as a Sanitarian with the Washington State Board of Registered Sanitarians, Certificate of Competency as a On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems Inspector, issued by the Washington State Department of Licensing if applicable, and Certification by the Washington State Department of Health as qualified to conduct public water system sanitary surveys if applicable.
