The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office consists of a four-member Command Staff, an Administrative Services Division and an Operations Division.
The Administrative Services Division responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the Records of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the serving of: civil processes, Protection Orders, Writs of Restitution amp; Evictions; responding to Public Disclosure Requests amp; processing/issuing Concealed Pistol Licenses amp; Firearms Dealer Licenses.
The Support Services Clerk I performs a variety of clerical work of moderate difficulty and complexity including operating a multi-line phone system, helping patrons visiting the office for both the Sheriff’s and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, receipting money, filing/composing letters, entering training data and produce training certificates for all Sheriff’s Office staff/deputies, perform monthly validations in ACCESS and assist/backup for Concealed Pistol Licensing and Public Records Requests as needed, gathering data, supporting records unit and civil unit functions.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must have United State citizenship or a lawful permanent resident who can read and write the English language.
• Must satisfactorily pass a Civil Service approved written examination and oral board interview.
• Must satisfactorily pass a record check, background investigation and drug screening.
• Must have no record of felony conviction.
• Must have no record of gross misdemeanor/misdemeanor conviction for crime involving controlled substances or physical harm.
• Must possess, or have the ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid Oregon or Washington State Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualification:
• Bilingual in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
The Successful Candidate Shall:
• Have excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills in working with Sheriff’s Office patrons and other staff members.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrate technology literacy, including database management, use of spreadsheets and word documents.
• Demonstrate flexibility in the various demands of the position and effective time management.
• Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and close attention to detail.
• Demonstrate the ability to be confidential.
• Be able to work additional hours as requested.
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to handle various crisis situations with the public who enter the office.
Responsible to: Chief Civil Deputy
Salary and Benefits: $18.80 - $25.19 an hour (2024), Non-Exempt, Benefits apply, Walla Walla Sheriff Administrative Support Employees-Teamsters Local Union No. 839.

Work Schedule: Full time – 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with a 1 hour lunch.
