    Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as the chief medical officer for the Walla Walla County Board of Health. Enforce applicable health statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances. Maintains sound medical practices, directs medical operations to assure optimal public health/preventive services and assists with controlling costs. Cooperative oversight with the Community Health Director for the Community Health Department.

    Working Environment/Physical Abilities: The Health Officer is not required to work onsite. Work is in an office or clinic setting Is on call and may work outside of normal hours and on weekends. May be exposed to a variety of infectious, environmental or chemical allergens. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required to meet universal health precaution requirements. Follows established work safety policies, practices, and procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed practicing physician with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities as prescribed in RCW 70.05.051. A Master of Public Health is preferred. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES amp; OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    A current license to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery in the State of Washington AND current registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency for prescription of controlled substances. A driving record that meets County requirements and a valid driver’s license.

    Provide documentation of immunization status, proof of immunity to vaccine preventable diseases, or sign an exemption and participate in the employee health program. Must successfully pass a background check and a driving record check. Membership, participation, and communication with the state-wide professional health officer association and the State Department of Health are desirable.
