    Brief Duties and Responsibilities: This is a professional position providing youth and young adult services in diversion, court intake, at-risk youth, truancy, diagnostics, and frequent court work. Typical responsibilities include disposition monitoring, facilitation of wrap around services, counseling, evidence-based programming, case management and supervision services for juveniles under the jurisdiction of Superior Court. This position will be responsible for interpreting and utilizing all available department and community resources to facilitate therapeutic services for court-involved youth and their families. Work is performed with considerable professional independence. Work will involve considerable contact with adolescents, their support systems, community agencies, schools, city, county, and state law enforcement officers, the prosecuting attorney's office, defense attorneys, service providers, the courts, and state agencies. Work is performed in and outside of the office environment. This position may have specialized assignments in court investigations, adolescent counseling, and community supervision of youth under the jurisdiction of the court. This position will be required to assist in the Child Advocate and Diversion Programs, if directed. General supervision is provided by the Juvenile Court Administrator who reviews work for adherence to required standards, procedures, and department policies through written reports and conferences with the person in this position.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will supervise clients assigned to their caseload.

    Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Duties involve working both in an office setting and externally in the environment. Requires travel in bi-county area. Must be able to physically arrest and restrain an individual under the department’s supervision and jurisdiction of RCW 13.40. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds from the ground level to a waist level. Required to have visual and hearing acuity and manual dexterity to perform the functions of the position. Position is subject to a flexible work schedule as deemed necessary by the department.

    Hazardous Working Environment: Employees assigned to this classification are designated to render first aid assistance in the regular course of their work. Classification is designated as a high exposure classification as defined under the occupational health and safety act in Washington Administrative Code governing Washington Industrial Health and Safety Act for blood borne pathogens protocol.

    Minimum Qualifications: Education And Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, psychology, sociology, or other closely related field required. Two years of experience in the criminal justice field, working with juveniles is preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish are desirable.

    Licenses and other requirements: Possess a valid Driver’s License and successfully pass a driving record check.

    Must pass a comprehensive, in-depth background investigation including psychological and polygraph examinations.

    First Aid and CPR certification must be obtained and maintained during employment. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation and criminal history check. Must successfully complete and graduate from the Community Supervision Officer course offered by the Washington State Criminal Justice Academy.
