      Job Title: SCHOOL AGE CHILDCARE ASSISTANT TEACHER      Status: Part-Time    

      Reports to: Director of Childcare Services                     Department:  SAGE

      POSITION SUMMARY:

      Assist the Head Teacher in carrying out the daily curriculum for the school age program

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      • Assist with daily activities (snack preparation, organized physical activities, arts & crafts projects, etc.)
      • Promotes feelings of mutual respect, acceptance, and appreciation among youth and adults
      • Creates a safe environment that helps all youth feel welcome and respected
      • Assist in maintenance of a clean facility
      • Employs positive behavior guidance strategies that provide youth with increased self-awareness and self-control
      • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings
      • Arrive at work on time and clock in properly
      • Maintain a consistent attendance record
      • Notify Head Teacher and Director if it is necessary to be absent from scheduled hours.
      • Actively participate in all activities
      • Interacts with youth in a positive, warm and nurturing manner
      • Understands and maintains personal boundaries with youth (e.g., physical space, time, etc.)
      • Develops and maintains open, friendly, cooperative, and respectful relationships with families and other partners
      • Encourages an open exchange of ideas
      • Uses effective listening and verbal skills, including positive body language and tone of voice
      • Promotes duties as requested by and director.

       

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Must be at least 16 years of age
      • Must have experience working with children ages 5-10
      • Must meet all State of Connecticut licensing requirements (negative TB test, good health report, First Aid / CPR certification)
      • Must have the ability and desire to work with children
