    Warehouse Associate/Delivery Driver

Northeast Automatic Sprinkler Company is a progressive fire protection subcontractor specializing in design, installation, service, inspection, testing, and maintenance of automatic fire protection sprinkler systems. We currently have two openings in our busy fabrication shop for the position of Warehouse Associate/Delivery Driver. Both positions are full-time. This job entails work in our fabrication shop as well as making deliveries and/or picking up supplies using a company truck or van.

Employees working in this position will be involved in putting together stock orders for delivery, accepting shipments, unloading and organizing stock, loading trucks, fabricating pipe - ensuring all specifications and standards are met, operating a forklift, as well as other general warehouse duties as assigned, while following all company policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. In addition, employees in this position will be making deliveries to various job sites and picking up stock in the Greater Boston and surrounding areas, as well as occasionally to Cape Cod, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire.

On days when morning deliveries need to be made, the start time may be as early as 5:00 am, as most deliveries must be at the job site by 6:00 or 7:00 am, depending on the specific job. If no morning delivery is needed, the start time at the shop on those days will be 6:30 am.

No CDL is necessary; however, a DOT card will be required by the end of the first week (the cost and time to get the DOT card will be paid for by the company).

    Qualifications:
    • RELIABLE - being prompt to the shop or job site each and every day is vital
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid MA driver's license, with an excellent driving record, and a dependable vehicle to get to and from work. A company vehicle will be provided for use in deliveries.
    • Basic mathematical skills - able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
    • Basic reasoning ability - able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions
    • Mechanical aptitude and good dexterity
    • Strong work ethic and self-motivated
    • Good attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
    • Positive attitude
    • Ability to keep work area clean and organized, as well as take proper care of equipment and materials
    • Possess a willingness to learn
    • Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
    • Clean background check
    • Ability to pass a drug test
    • Must be able to stand, squat, and walk for long periods of time
    • Must be capable of bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and/or twisting
    • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull at least 50 lbs.

We are willing to train the right person. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of dependability, a strong work ethic, and excellent references. Our shop is very busy and can be hectic at times. A successful employee in this position will be one who thrives in a fast-paced environment and displays a sense of urgency in completing assigned tasks correctly. Experience with fabrication, warehouse work, a “hands-on type position”, as well as experience as a delivery driver and familiarity with the Greater Boston area, are all definite pluses.

There will be some overtime based on the start time. We aim to finish by 2:30 pm, but it is also not uncommon for us to work until 4:00 pm or so. There will be occasional opportunities for late afternoon/evening overtime as well as the morning (on days when we have late clean-outs or late-day emergencies in the city).

We are a union fire protection contractor, and although this position is non-union, one of the many benefits this position has given employees in the past is experience working for a sprinkler contractor and to become familiar with the materials and gain a basic understanding of sprinkler systems, as well as to see if the sprinkler fitter trade may be of interest to them. In fact, many of the employees who have started in our shop have transitioned into apprenticeships for the Local 550 Sprinkler Fitters union.

Our company offers a generous benefits package (once eligible), including paid holidays; PTO; medical, dental and vision insurance; a 401(k) with a company match; EAP; and group life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.

Pay is commensurate with experience and ability.
