    Position summary: Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Lead the project development process for roadway/highway projects
    • Analyze project requirements and information to develop accurate deliverables for submittal
    • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects/tasks
    • Perform design computations
    • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools, i.e. Bentley ORD
    • Develop or review the construction cost estimate
    • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
    • Attend meetings with clients and assist taking meeting minutes
    • Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design
    • Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan
    • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department
    • Coordinate with internal and external team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
    • Professional Engineer License (Texas)
    • 5-10 years’ experience in specialized discipline
    • Proficient in discipline specific design software
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Written and communication skills

    Qualifications Preferred

    • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

    Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
