The department of Environmental Studies at Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a faculty position in Ecological Forestry. This is a full-time, junior-level position in an extended contract system beginning in August of 2022. We seek a colleague with a focus in forest management and conservation who is strongly committed to teaching and student-engaged research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment.  We encourage candidates who have interest in forest stewardship techniques such as agroforestry, carbon sequestration and/or traditional place-based ecological knowledge and a commitment to experiential and applied learning pedagogy. The faculty member in this position will teach 24 credit hours per year consisting of 4-5 courses and an additional 4 credits allocated to mentoring undergraduate research. The ecological forestry program at Warren Wilson College integrates the College's 600 acres of forested lands into experiential teaching and student-engaged research. This faculty member will join the Land Resources Team, including the College land managers and other members of the Environmental Studies faculty, working in close collaboration with the Dean of Land Resources on visioning of the future of the College's working landscape program. All faculty members are expected to engage in service to the department, college, and community and conduct ongoing professional development and scholarly activity. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ways in which their teaching and undergraduate-engaged research will advance the goals of community-based collaboration, equity and justice, interdisciplinary programming and experiential learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD in a field related to forest ecology, management or conservation; ABD will be considered;
• One to two years of teaching experience in classroom and outdoor settings;
• Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in learning spaces. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations (e.g. racial/ethnic, income, immigration status, sexual orientation/gender identification, etc.);
• Demonstrated track record of professional growth and scholarship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level;
• Teaching and/or professional experience in traditional ecological knowledge, agroforestry and/or carbon sequestration;
• Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy;
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research.
