    Warren Wilson College invites applications for the Land Stewards Fellow position, an exciting new position designed specifically for Warren Wilson College alumni who are interested in developing supervision skills and professional experience with land management. Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks with professionalism, tact and sensitivity. Desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate effective and courteous interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students and community partners from different backgrounds.  Exceptional candidates will possess professional or volunteer experience with land enterprise and/or conservation as well as a desire to lead, inspire and supervise student workers.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    •  Must possess a bachelor's degree from Warren Wilson College
    • At least two years of experience working on a WWC land crew, specifically landscaping, garden, farm or forestry.
    • Valid driver's license required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Previous supervisory experience
    • Professional and/or volunteer experience with land enterprises and/or conservation.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Land Stewards Fellow is a 12-month position for a recent Warren Wilson College graduate who seeks to gain leadership experience, expanding their direct supervision experiences and enhancing skillsets that pertain to the field of supervision and land management. The Fellow will work in collaboration with the Dean of Land Resources and the other supervisors within the Land Stewards Program to assist in carrying out the planning, administration and daily tasks of the their area, while developing their skills and knowledge base of project management, student employee supervision and scheduling.

    LAND STEWARDSHIP CREW SUMMARY

    The Land Stewardship Crew supports the operational needs of the College Farm, College Garden, College Forest and native plant work of the BIO/ENS Crew. The Fellow will be responsible for meeting with the crew supervisors from each of these units on a regular basis and scheduling activities that will support the day-to-day operations and the aesthetic value of the College's viewshed. Once tasks are scheduled, it will be expected that activities will be conducted without supervision of the relevant crew supervisor. The Fellow and students on the Land Stewardship Crew will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of land management activities spanning forestry, agriculture, agroforestry, wildlife habitat and native plant conservation.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    PROGRAM COORDINATION

    • Work with the Dean of Land Resources to determine the logistical needs of the Land Stewards Program.
    • Develop long term plan for how the work of the program with contribute to meet the needs of the Land Resources department over the course of the year
    • Identify project learning opportunities in which the Fellow may attain particularly rich project-based learning
    • Complete the Work Program Supervisor Fellows Learning Contract in consultation with the Supervisor.
    • Meet weekly with the supervisor to identify goals for the week and ensure alignment with long term goals

    CREW SUPERVISION

    • Work with the Work Program on selection and recruitment of student crew members and participate in orientation and training for all student workers to support their professional and educational development.
    • Maintain professional boundaries with student crew members.
    • Assist in guiding students through the learning and performance goals and evaluations process in a timely manner.
    • Perform scheduling and oversight of student crew members
    • Collaborate with the staff of the WPO to problem solve any student crew issues that may arise.
    • Document a hazard assessment and safety plan for the work of the department.

    DATA MANAGEMENT

    • Exercise independent judgment and initiative in maintaining and revising sensitive data, such as student records and budgetary information.
    • Maintain and track time and attendance records for student employees.
    • Perform basic bookkeeping and data management functions through computerized data entry.
    • Assist in preparing check requests using appropriate accounts. (MS Excel/Google spreadsheet program database management and development essential).

    BUILD AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE CAMPUS RELATIONSHIPS.

    • Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills through timely and professional communications with affected campus constituencies
    • Develop and utilize a customer service approach as it pertains to the work of the department.
    • Continually consider the impact of work on other campus constituencies, with an eye towards partnership.
