Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a faculty position in the Department of Biology. This is a full-time, Assistant Professor position in an extended contract system beginning in August of 2023. We seek a broadly trained zoologist with expertise in the areas of evolutionary biology, aquatic biology, and/or systematics who is strongly committed to teaching and student-engaged research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. The faculty member in this position will teach 24 credit hours per year consisting of 4-5 courses and an additional 4 credits allocated to mentoring undergraduate research. All faculty at the College teach within their expertise and, as appropriate to the department, teach courses that contribute to general education. In addition to their teaching, all faculty are expected to demonstrate their continued engagement in scholarship and/or creative activity and to engage in collegial institutional service.

The position is open to individuals studying any area of zoology who can contribute to a rapidly growing Conservation Biology major, a well established major in Biology, and the needs of non-majors students. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work (1) explores the relationship between evolutionary biology and biodiversity, and (2) investigates aquatic ecosystems through that lens. The successful applicant will teach a variety of biology courses, including Introductory Biology, General Zoology, Evolutionary Biology, biology courses for non-majors, and courses in their area of specialty. In addition, faculty have opportunities to teach study-away courses, summer courses, and first-year seminars.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. in Zoology or other relevant field. ABD will be considered.
• One to two years of successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in learning spaces. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations.
• Experience mentoring and integrating undergraduate students in research;
• Demonstrated track record of scholarship in biology, including peer-reviewed publications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level;
• Experience teaching Introductory Biology courses at the undergraduate level
• Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.
