    Washington Dreyer & Associates is hiring an associate attorney with at least three to five years of litigation experience or government experience. The ideal candidate will also have a willingness to learn new areas of the law including business litigation, personal injury, and family law. Day-to-day tasks will include legal research, drafting documents, maintaining client files, and providing legal counsel to clients. The ideal candidate must have strong legal research and writing skills. Washington Dreyer & Associates provides the opportunity to gain courtroom experience, direct client contact, and work on complex litigation with regional and national significance. Responsibilities: • Analyze conflicts in legal matters, advise clients on solutions, and negotiate on behalf of clients • Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals and support staff • Collaborate with clients and senior associates and other staff to move cases toward resolution efficiently • Perform legal research, prepare for and attend hearings or other legal proceedings, and give general counsel under the supervision of senior associate attorneys • Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings Civil & Business Litigation • Participate in all aspects of complex litigation, including research, discovery, motions practice, hearings, trials, and appeals in state and federal courts. • Research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and appeals. • Participate in settlement negotiations. • Directly advise clients on legal strategies. • Conduct legal research and keep abreast of recent legal developments. • Maintain an organized file and docket all deadlines. Government Affairs • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs utilizing at least 2 years of relevant experience. • Research and prepare legal opinions for Mayor, City Council, City Manager, boards, commissions, and other city staff. Attend City Council meetings. • Maintain current awareness of legislation and issues involving municipal operations. • Serve as the liaison for the City, including municipal divisions, departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive issues. • Serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence. • Provide other responsible assistance to the City Council. • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public law. • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. • Perform related duties as required. Qualifications: • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree required from an accredited law school • Candidates must have passed the bar exam • Ability to work with senior attorneys to best serve client needs and grow our client base • Effective communication skills and problem-solving skills are necessary to work with all levels of staff and clients • Active member of the American Bar Association (ABA) • Must have at least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience. Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000 yearly
