  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Oversee the old and new filter plants, Lakes, and the primary and secondary waste treatment (WT) operations.

    · Conduct a daily visual inspection of the WT facility and complete additional inspections based on operating conditions.

    o Oversee daily basic care rounds.

    · Review the WT operators log sheet every morning from the previous day. Make any changes needed to the plant after reviewing. Work with the Technician and the WT operator to make needed changes.

    · Report any abnormalities at WT to the senior management so that corrections can be made in a timely manner.

    · Keep in regulatory compliance, SRBC, NPEDS, and DEP requirements. BOD, TSS, COLOR, DO, TEMP, and Color.

    · Work with current chemical vendor to stay in compliance for the above requirements and ensure chemical deliveries are onsite in a timely manner.

    o Track and optimize chemical usage through best practices and improvement trials.

    · Work with maintenance to coordinate all ground maintenance, upkeep and maintenance needs at both Lake Marburg and Lake PAHAGACO.

    · Coordinate all annual inspections for both dams annually. (Oct)

    · Participates in weekly on call rotation. Complete annual budgets for WT, Filter Plant (FP), and Solid Waste departments.

    · Manage hourly employees at Waste Treatment, Filter Plant and Solid Waste.

    Mentor Waste Treatment Engineer

    · Create work orders for all work needed in any of the areas of responsibility.

    · Create purchase requisitions (PR) as required.

    · Approve all invoices as necessary.

    · Schedule all weekly maintenance work needed with in house maintenance.

    · Work with maintenance to schedule and coordinate all annual outage shutdown work. (Most all work is completed by outside contractors during this time.)

    · Ensure required chemicals are purchased and delivered.

    · Support both on-site maintenance and contractors when work is being done. (LOTO, hot work, confined space permits, etc.

    · Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

    · Manage department spend.

    · Work with the purchasing department as needed for raw material inventory.

    · Work with the local sludge hauling contractor to schedule sludge hauling when needed.

    · Work with purchasing and contractor to schedule lime hauling when the lime storage pad is full.

    · Effectively communicate issues and concerns with all operating departments.

    · Coordinate with the operating departments within the mill for non-typical sewer discharges.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily as agreed by incumbent and supervisory manager. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities.

    Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering and at least five (2) years related experience in pulping or process engineering OR a high school diploma or GED and at least fifteen (15) years combined experience in pulping operations and front-line supervision.

    Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. Ability to write operational and safety procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, engineers, and hourly workers.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in verbal, mathematical, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
