    Position Overview

    We are seeking a skilled Wastewater Operator to manage the safe and efficient operation of our facility’s industrial wastewater treatment plant and associated systems (including pH adjustment units, clarifiers, filter presses, and chemical dosing systems). Your primary goal is to treat manufacturing effluent to meet environmental discharge standards while minimizing equipment downtime.

    Key Responsibilities

    System Operations: Monitor, adjust, and control treatment systems. Regulate flows, chemical feeds, and pressure pumps based on production demands and water quality metrics.

    SOP Development: Create and strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain operational consistency, workplace cleanliness, preventative maintenance, and asset repair.

    Testing & Analysis: Collect wastewater samples at various stages of production and perform routine laboratory analyses (including pH, free acid, Total Acid, and Total Suspended Solids).

    Compliance & Reporting: Ensure facility discharges comply with permits and industrial pretreatment standards. Maintain accurate digital logs, chemical titration data, usage inventory, and detailed shift reports.

    Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance on treatment equipment such as valves, pumps, blowers, and piping.

    Chemical Management: Safely handle, store, and transfer hazardous treatment chemicals. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the reordering of reagents.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with plant production and manufacturing teams to anticipate and manage changes in wastewater characteristics based on daily production runs.

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    Experience: 1–3 years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment operations, pump maintenance, or a closely related manufacturing/industrial engineering field.

    Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; a degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

    Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of titrations, wastewater system operations, and basic computer skills. Skilled in using hand/power tools, welding, electrical troubleshooting (including 3-phase systems), and reading blueprints/technical manuals.

    Certifications & Licenses: Valid driver’s license (ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL is preferred).Relevant state-issued Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator License/Certification is strongly preferred (or required within a specified timeframe, per State of Michigan requirements).

    Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, work in varying environmental conditions, climb ladders, work in awkward positions, and routinely lift or move 50 to 100 lbs.
