Individual will work independently with little or no supervision while driving a city vehicle and making frequent stops
perform field duties such as water service turn-ons and turn-offs, delinquent turn-offs, and high bill investigations
apply knowledge of city geography and street locations; receive and document work orders using an iPad
follow established policies and procedures
perform simple mathematical calculations
accurately document meter readings and calculations
effectively communicate with a dispatcher via a two-way radio
effectively communicate with and directly assist the public
stoop and lift daily a minimum of 75 water meter and/or vault box lids ranging from approximately 10 to 75 pounds and work outside in all weather conditions.
Work will occasionally require the ability to use basic hand tools such as metal detectors, shovels, and hand pumps to access meter boxes that may be buried in mud or sand or flooded with water.
This individual may also occasionally encounter irate or disgruntled customers and must be able to represent the City of Virginia Beach in a professional and respectful manner at all times, regardless of the situation. Must have and maintain a good driving record and possess a valid Virginia or NC driver's license.

Dress Code:
Workers must wear City-issued shirts and work pants. No jeans allowed. Workers are issued approved outerwear and should dress appropriately for outdoor weather, including rain, heat, and colder temperatures. No open-toed shoes allowed.
