Job Description

We are looking for energetic, hard-working, dependable, multi-tasking Medical Insurance Authorization specialists who are passionate about helping others and making a difference. Duties will vary on an as-needed basis and must be diverse and able to adapt to changes in responsibilities.
Medical Authorization Specialists are responsible for verifying coverage and obtaining authorizations for specialized procedures in dermatology, plastic surgery, radiation, and vein treatments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Medical Authorization Specialist verifies and confirms patients’ information, benefits, and status with various insurance vendors.
Navigates through different insurance websites for eligibility, authorizations, payments, and clearances.
Contact the patient’s insurance company to verify coverage, initiate authorizations, provide clinical documentation, and follow up on previously submitted prior authorizations.
Compare information obtained to prior claims to ensure accuracy if applicable.
Document findings and all pertinent information in the notes section of the patient’s chart and appt notes in a thorough and clear manner.
Communicates to the patient their financial responsibility when it exceeds $100 and document all conversations and attempts in the patient’s chart.
Maintain professional and open communication with the providers, offices, central pathology, and coworkers to ensure optimal patient care.
Provides weekly progress notes upon request from insurance companies.
Stays up to date on payer medical policies and requirements for procedures assigned.
Maintain the confidentially of the client’s records, progress notes, and any related work.
Medical Authorization Specialists work well in a team environment to accomplish common tasks in a collegial manner.
Accepts special projects as assigned and completes them in an efficient and timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education - This position requires a High School Degree or equivalent completion.
Experience – Must have at least one year of experience in patient/authorization. Familiarity with medical terminology and applicable technology
Communication – Excellent oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.
Work Style - Must be able to work well independently but ask for help when needed. Ability to analyze and interpret information, ability to interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically
