    Seeking a Senior Research Scientist to provide scientific and academic guidance for a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) clinical investigation program within the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) in Silver Spring, Maryland.  The Senior Research Scientist will provide oversight to the 15-year congressionally mandated and multi-phase study, which considers diverse psychosocial and neurobiological risk and protective factors for TBI. Responsibilities will include:

    • Provide scientific oversight of the 15-year Longitudinal Study and oversee a larger program of clinical investigations on TBI within DVBIC.
    • Consult with and assist other groups in the development and implementation of TBI related clinical investigations as needed.
    • Provide scientific oversight for all aspects of a large clinical investigation project including concept development, protocol design, form development, oversees submission through regulatory bodies, data collection and analysis, production of professional manuscripts for journal submission and professional presentations.
    • Serve as the point of contact for communication for the 15 Year Study, receiving support requests and ensuring that all required documents and procedures are performed within established guidelines.
    • Provide required reports and meet scheduled report submission requirements.
    • Supervise scientific and administrative staff. Coordinate, oversee, monitor and day-to-day operations over Project activities.
    • Ensure scientific quality and progression of the Project meeting milestones as targeted.
    • Ensure that realistic deadlines are set and appropriate resources are assigned to accomplish all established tasks.
    • Monitor progress to ensure that critical elements are proceeding on schedule and that all deliverables are provided on a timely basis.
    • Communicate with and oversee collaborations with academic institutions and external authorities.
    • Provide scientific review of prospective contractor personnel’s history regarding scientific personnel recruitment.

    Required Skills

    • PhD. in Psychology or Public Health required. Training and experience in neuropsychology preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years related scientific program management experience required.
    • Knowledge of the principles and theoretical concepts of brain injury pathophysiology, clinical effects, and treatment required.
    • Knowledge of NIMH multi-year grant administration and/or familiarity with military medical system along with grants management experience is desirable. A demonstrated track record in obtaining grant funding from national or international granting agencies, development of a successful program of clinical investigation in TBI, and productivity in publication of peer reviewed papers in the area of TBI is highly preferred.
    • Experience directing a multidisciplinary clinical investigation team preferred.
    • General clinical investigation knowledge with ability to develop and implement scientifically sound clinical investigation protocols. Ability to conceptualize and execute multiple clinical investigation projects from an existing database.
    • Ability to effectively author professional, peer reviewed journal articles, manuscripts, clinical investigation grant applications, posters, and clinical investigation reports.
    • Ability to select and apply statistical techniques appropriate to the brain injury clinical investigation protocols under development and/or application is required.
    • Peer recognition of professional and scholarly contributions in his/her chosen specialty is desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop national and international clinical investigation collaborations is considered an asset.
    • Must be a US Citizen
    • Must be available to travel locally, regionally and nationally.
