    RESEARCH SCIENTIST (RADAR SYSTEMS)

Wavetronix seeks a highly-motivated full-time research scientist with a strong experience in systems engineering, RF/microwave circuits, algorithms, and digital signal processing. The primary objective of the position is to help propose new radar sensors – focusing on system level design and prototype development – and to help assess their commercial viability. This position can be considered as an industrial equivalent to an academic professor position, where core responsibilities will include:

INNOVATION: Research on emerging technologies and applications in the realm of radar sensors, prototype systems, submit patent applications, and analyze the commercial viability of prototypes.

TEACHING: Mentor other engineers, transfer knowledge through on-site seminars, lectures, and trainings. Supervise research engineer(s) in prototype development.

CITIZENSHIP: Help Engineering to solve challenging issues as they arise on current products and serve on internal corporate committees.

The successful candidate will work independently in a dedicated research team including experts in RF circuits, radar systems, signal processing, and embedded systems. The position includes support for participation in technical conferences or other technical development opportunities.

A successful Research Scientist will accomplish the following:

    Within 90 Days:

    • Develop a deep understanding of the system level design (both RF and algorithms) of Wavetronix traffic radars.
    • Research new technologies (both hardware and software) relevant to radar sensors and evaluate their use for future Wavetronix products.

    Year 1:

    • Research, design, prototype, and evaluate radar systems that can enhance the performance of current products.
    • Explore future applications of radar technology and present future product ideas to the research board.
    • Prototype at least two radar sensors in consultation with the research board. Effectively contribute to one internal committee, be mentoring at least one research engineer, and have taught at least one company seminar or workshop on advanced technology.

    Beyond Year 1:

    • Become a key contributor to research on system level design and development for future radar or other traffic sensors.
    • Mentor research engineers in prototype development.
    • Collaborate with product development personnel to launch new application-specific sensor research projects.
    • Regularly teach technical seminars, use expertise to help solve technical product issues, and serve on company committees.

    Beyond Year 4:

    • Based on the number of prototypes successfully developed and their commercial success, apply for promotion to senior research scientist and eventually principal research scientist. These positions afford more autonomy, self-direction and internal funding.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

    • MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant research experience or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with preferably 2-3 years of relevant research experience. Relevant experience can be in radar or communication systems.
    • High personal motivation, a strong work ethic, and high standards for personal and team results.
    • Demonstrated mastery of system design, array signal processing, antenna theory, RF/microwave circuit theory and design, and system level testing.
    • Proven proficiency and hands-on experience with the use of RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, and anechoic chamber).
    • Demonstrated ability to use Matlab for system level modelling and data analysis.
    • Proven proficiency in and Hands-on experience with programming in C or C++ on DSP and microcontroller platforms.
