Engineering Consulting Firm in the Galleria Houston, TX area is seeking a Civil Engineer II to join a busy company!
Overview:
- May assume task management responsibilities.
- Exercise an increased amount of professional judgement and discretion.
- Increasing responsibility to direct technical and support staff. Works closely with project and team leaders.
- Receives general supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
- Site plan design: hose lay, fire apparatus, parking requirements, accessible path, landscape requirements, dry utilities – gas, electric, transformer
- Site Restrictions: easements, building setbacks, title commitment, driveway location
- Waterline design – meters, backflow, hose lay, fire hydrants, waterline size
- Sanitary design – minimum/maximum slopes, manhole spacing, cleanouts, drop connection, offset from water line, pipe conflicts
- Drainage design – pipes, inlets, spreadsheet calcs, HGLs100- year sheet flow, extreme event overflow, restrictor calcs for orifice and weir, culverts, SETs
- Detention pond design – detention pond sizing, Malcomb’s method, small water shed sizing, side slopes, backslope swales, maintenance berms, public vs private
- Mitigation design – preform mitigation calculations
- Dirt balance – Bluebeam pdf analysis, Civil3D analysis
- Grading design – minimum finish floor, ADA requirements, pavement slopes, etc.
- Lift station design – Storm, Sanitary, minimum velocity, vendor vs structural, floats, flap gate, buoyance, pump curve
- Coordinate with Design team
- Works closely with project and task team leaders
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance at WGA Houston office
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience:
- Participate in development of preliminary design concepts, make comparative cost and analysis.
- Recognize discrepancies in results and make appropriate changes and follows procedure through completion.
- Responsible for familiarity with the firm’s practices, procedures, and standards.
- May perform limited quality control reviews within areas of expertise.
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Growing knowledge of municipal development codes and design criteria of local jurisdictions
- Growing knowledge with permitting, bidding and construction administration processes.
- Good oral and written communication skills, good sense of professional rule
- Continues on-the-job training.
- Growing knowledge of profession as organizations, professional development programs or other training.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language clearly and both orally and in writing ·
Education Requirements:
- Requires Engineering bachelor’s degree and ±18 months of direct experience or master’s degree.
- Certified EIT required
