About Certified Welcoming
The Certified Welcoming program provides a formal designation for local governments that have created policies and programs reflecting their values and commitment to immigrant inclusion. The designation is reserved for those places that meet rigorous requirements set out by the Welcoming Standard. Participants complete a rigorous independent assessment to evaluate their compliance with the Standard. Both Certified Welcoming and the Welcoming Standard were designed following standards set by ISEAL.
Role Summary
The Virtual Intern for Certified Welcoming is responsible for supporting the Certified Welcoming Manager and other program staff on a variety of projects that assist localities seeking certification. Projects are expected to include the development of a program manual, research and policy analysis, and program support.
As this is a virtual internship, candidates should expect to participate regularly in team Zoom calls and actively use email and chat platforms (Slack, Gchat) to communicate progress and ask questions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Assist with documenting the new certification process in the Certified Welcoming Manual
Conduct background research and review of at least three participants in the Certified Welcoming program
Assist with the program delivery of a recertification cohort
Monitor Google news alerts on Certified Welcoming
Participate regularly in team check-ins and full staff meetings
Potential for other projects as determined by skill, interest, and need
Qualifications
Skills:
Strong research and analysis skills with a learning orientation.
Thrives in a very fast-paced environment and can manage multiple projects
Has superb attention to detail and is highly organized, double-checking work even in crunch time
Has a deep customer service orientation: empathy, friendliness, and good judgment
Enthusiastic about research and enjoys learning and working through complex processes and systems
High comfort with cloud platforms like Google Drive and WordPress
Experience with and knowledge of WordPress is preferred, but not required
Knowledge:
Candidates must have a background in public policy, program management, research and data analysis or related fields, preferably within the nonprofit sector. Some technical experience in data management and program design and evaluation would be an asset (but not required), as well as an interest in diversity, inclusion, immigration, refugees, and/or community building.
Attributes
A high degree of flexibility and responsiveness is essential for this position. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic, excellent written and spoken communication, and superb attention to detail. A proactive, can-do attitude and strong motivation to get the most out of the internship experience will be a critical measurement of success.
As this is a virtual internship, candidates must be able to manage their time and workload without supervision. They must also adhere to all the same professional standards in their demeanor and work quality as they would in an on-site internship.
Other Requirements
Candidates must be enrolled in a university degree program. Candidates must also have consistent access to a computer and a reliable Internet connection.
