Position Summary:
We are actively seeking experienced and highly skilled 6G Welders for a specialized stainless steel piping project involving 24" diameter pipe constructed from 316 Stainless Steel. Candidates must be able to successfully complete a weld test according to specific process and material parameters. All production welds will be subject to X-ray or PT (liquid penetrant testing) inspections, so quality and precision are non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform high-quality welding on 316SS piping in 6G position
Work on 24" diameter pipe, Schedule 40
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols
Prepare materials and fit-up joints (butt welds and fillet welds)
Maintain strict adherence to weld procedures and client specifications
Complete root passes using GMAW (RMD) or GTAW
Perform fill and cap passes using GMAW pulsed, GTAW, or a combination (GTAW root, GMAW out)
Perform work in accordance with safety policies and industry best practices
Maintain cleanliness and quality of weld area and tools
Accurately document welds and inspections as required
Weld Test Requirements:
Position: 6G
Material: 316 Stainless Steel
Pipe Diameter: Adjustable (Production welds will be on 24")
Schedule: 40
Acceptable Welding Process Options:
GMAW (RMD) root + GMAW Pulsed to cap
GTAW root + GMAW to cap
GTAW root to cap (all the way out)
Joint Types: Butt welds and Fillet welds
Testing Method: Candidate may be evaluated using X-ray (RT) or Destructive Bend Testing
Production welds will be X-ray tested for butt welds and PT (liquid penetrant) tested for fillet welds
Requirements & Qualifications:
Minimum 5+ years of experience in pipe welding, specifically on 316 Stainless
Proven ability to weld in 6G position with high quality and repeatability
Strong knowledge of GMAW (RMD & Pulsed), GTAW processes
Familiarity with X-ray and PT inspection standards and best practices
Ability to work independently in a high-performance, safety-focused environment
Must pass pre-employment weld test to client specifications
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and weld symbols
Reliable transportation to job site and consistent attendance
Preferred Qualifications:
Current certifications in GTAW/GMAW preferred (ASME Section IX or AWS D1.6 if applicable)
OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Prior experience with high-purity stainless or pharmaceutical-grade welding is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks in a physically demanding environment
Comfortable working in outdoor or industrial environments (heat, confined spaces, elevated platforms)
About the Project:
This is a high-spec industrial piping project involving the welding of 24" Schedule 40 pipe constructed from 316 Stainless Steel. Welds must be executed with precision and attention to detail to meet inspection criteria for both X-ray (RT) and PT. Welders must be confident in root-to-cap execution using the appropriate process mix and maintain high productivity under strict quality control standards.
