GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision, coordinates media relations, strategic communications and crisis communications efforts and builds an effective relationship between the news media and the organizations that comprise the System. Writes and edits articles, media releases, blogs and related copy for print, video, and digital media.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 Coordinates the planning and execution of media relations, crisis communications and strategic communications activities. Provides editorial guidance to contributing writers of System publications and other communications efforts, ensuring consistency of message. 2 Serves as official spokesperson for the System and/or System entities to the media on events and news stories; determines the appropriateness of media requests for information and formulates the content, timing, and manner of media releases, in accordance with appropriate policies. Serves as public information officer for the assigned entities of the System and participates in all System disaster planning activities in this capacity. 3 Continuously scans the internal and external environment, understands the organizations major strategic and operating priorities and proactively identifies opportunities to engage members of the news media, employees, stakeholders, and other community members in communicating information that strengthens the WellSpan brand. 4 Writes, edits and otherwise develops copy for news releases, feature stories and online content. Coordinates efforts to disseminate information to promote the Systems brand. Determines appropriate media and distribution techniques. 5 Plans the focus and techniques of assigned projects to meet the goals and objectives of the System's public relations programs; participates in assessing the quality and effectiveness of the public relations effort and contributes ideas for future public relations activities. 6 Counsels and provides public relations guidance and technical support to assigned areas.
