    General Summary:

    Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, provides clinical support services to patient care staff by performing a variety of duties related to patient care. Takes patient vital signs, assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, toileting, etc.), inventories and replenishes supplies and equipment, and performs special assigned duties such as performing EKGs and Point-of-Care testing. Duties and Responsibilities: The following are essential job accountabilities: 1 Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including activities of daily living and the removal of peripheral IVs and indwelling urinary catheter. 2 Monitors patient condition levels; recognizes and reports changes in patient condition to the registered nurse. 3 Possess the knowledge and skills to keep patients safe. Performs purposeful hourly rounds to identify and address patient needs. 4 Obtains and electronically documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, respiration and pulse. 5 Train and precept new employees. 6 Performs Point-of-Care testing which may include blood glucose, hemocult and specific gravity testing. Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records. 7 Prepares patients for tests, procedures, etc. and transports patients to tests, procedures and different levels of care. 8 Collects specimens as directed using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens. 9 Performs EKGs and transmits studies. 10 Obtains and removes equipment and supplies necessary for patient care. 11 Responsible for maintaining and storing equipment appropriately and completing electronic requests for equipment repairs. 12 Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder points are reached. 13 Responsible for stocking patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. with appropriate items at required levels. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

    On Tower 2 you will care for a diverse population of Heart & Vascular patients. If you enjoy the challenges of learning new skills, at a rapid pace, while in a patient centered environment, with awesome teamwork, then Tower 2 is the place for you. Tower 2, is a transitional care area that has 60 private beds all capable of telemetry monitoring. Surgical patients such as post open heart, ventricular assist devices, vascular, and thoracic surgery encompass 40% our patient population.  The other 60% of our patient population is medical with a focus on interventional cardiology procedures, heart failure, and acute coronary syndrome. The Tower 2 team consists of: Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary/Monitor Techs, Physicians, Rehab Medicine, and Dietary. Beyond patient care, there are opportunities to drive your clinical practice by participating in a shared decision making council or a Core Team. Team scheduling allows flexibility in maintaining a work life balance. Tower 2 will provide you with the support of a knowledgeable team and a unit based educator who will assist in your development of foundational skills that will secure your success as a Heart & Vascular registered nurse at WellSpan Health.
