RN-Gettysburg Hospital- Forensic Nurse Examiner PRN
General Summary: Under general supervision, provides objective forensic evaluation as outlined by the United States Department of Justice. Forensic examination will be completed after the patient is assessed for injury/condition(s) that would require immediate medical intervention. Once any immediate medical conditions are stabilized or it is determined that immediate medical intervention is not required, the forensic exam may be completed. Duties and Responsibilities: The following are essential job accountabilities: 1 Completes a forensic exam including, but not limited to: Triage of the patient for injury; obtaining information about health history and information regarding the crime to guide assessment; obtaining informed consent prior to beginning examination; performing an extensive head to toe physical examination for the purpose of identifying injury and obtaining forensic evidence; collecting and preserving evidence maintaining chain of custody; collecting urine and blood samples and sending them to designated laboratory as indicated by patients reporting of events; treating and/or referring patient for further medical treatment and follow up; providing prophylactic treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention; providing referrals for community resources and follow-up; ensuring patient has a safe environment to go to when he/she leaves the care of the forensic nurse examiner; providing patient teaching for the examination and medical implications of the reported event; and obtaining court ordered evidence. 2 Provides courtroom testimony when required. 3 Assists other disciplines with forensic care concerns when necessary. 4 Uses a multidisciplinary approach when providing forensic care. 5 Prepares and maintains written documentation required by the profession and the emergency department.

Required Experience
Previous experience as a Forensic Nurse Examiner preferred
Must have experience as a RN for consideration
