    Title: Development & Communications Coordinator

    Reports to: Director of Donor Engagement

    Status: Full-Time, Exempt

    Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, with occasional evening & weekend hours

    Location: 86th Street, 180th Street, and other community sites – (40-80% on-site)

    West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH)—established in 1979 and one of the largest and most successful food pantries in New York City—provides emergency food assistance and supportive services, including access to benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to low-income New York families. West Side Campaign Against Hunger's mission is to alleviate hunger by ensuring all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.

    WSCAH has seen significant growth and changes through the COVID-19 pandemic, as food security has significantly increased, while our community of customers, partners, funders, and individual donors has also grown. WSCAH's aim is to increase the organizational profile across NYC through elevated communication and engagement, to highlight and position WSCAH as a leading change-maker in emergency food across NYC.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range for this position is $49,000 - $56,000 based on experience and qualifications. WSCAH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including company-paid medical, dental, and life insurance, 403b retirement plan with 6% match after one year of employment, as well as paid holidays and vacation leave.

    Position Overview:

    West Side Campaign Against Hunger is seeking a passionate and dedicated Development and Communications Coordinator to join our team. This role is pivotal in advancing the organization's mission by supporting fundraising efforts and enhancing communication strategies. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced in social media platforms. ** Proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred.**

    Key areas of responsibility will include:

    Fundraising and Donor Relations:

    • Manage donor database, enter and track contributions, and ensure accurate and timely acknowledgement of gifts.
    • Help create content for cultivation and stewardship touchpoints for constituents.
    • Support fundraising campaigns, including digital and print, to raise funds for WSCAH's operations.
    • Assist with grant administration, ensuring certifications and pre qualifications are up to date.
    • Communicate gifts received with External Affairs team & Executive Director/CEO.
    • Conduct prospect research.
    • Track the stock of fundraising and staff materials and order as needed. (e.g. stamps, WSCAH branded items, paper, envelopes)

    Communication and Outreach:

    • Assist Communications Manager in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to raise awareness of WSCAH's work and impact.
    • Work with Communications Manager to manage and update WSCAH's website.
    • Draft content and manage WSCAH's social media platforms and other communication channels to engage and inform stakeholders.
    • Create and distribute compelling content for eblasts, newsletters, press releases, and impact stories, to highlight WSCAH's achievements and drive engagement.
    • Engage with various constituents to collect testimonials, videos, and photos.

    Event Planning and Coordination:

    • Assist in the planning, execution, and promotion of fundraising and community events.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless event logistics, attendee engagement, and follow-up activities.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate or Bachelor Degree or 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and effectively convey WSCAH's mission.
    • Ability to become proficient in donor database management.
    • Understanding of social media platforms especially LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
    • Passion for social justice, hunger alleviation, and community empowerment.
    • ** Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.**
