Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (35 Hour Work Week)
Hours: Monday - Friday with occasional evening & weekend hours

West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH)—established in 1979 and one of the largest and most successful food pantries in New York City—provides emergency food assistance and supportive services, including access to benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to low-income New York families. West Side Campaign Against Hunger's mission is to alleviate hunger by ensuring all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.
WSCAH has seen significant growth and changes through the COVID-19 pandemic, as food security has significantly increased, while our community of customers, partners, funders, and individual donors has also grown. WSCAH's aim is to increase the organizational profile across NYC through elevated communication and engagement, to highlight and position WSCAH as a leading change-maker in emergency food across NYC.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 based on experience and qualifications. WSCAH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including company-paid medical, dental, and life insurance, 403b retirement plan with 6% match after one year of employment, as well as paid holidays and vacation leave.
Position Overview
West Side Campaign Against Hunger is seeking a highly motivated individual with a design mindset to fill our role of Office Assistant / Receptionist for our warehouse facility located at 180th Street in Washington Heights. The Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for our organization, both in person and over the phone. The Receptionist's duties include offering administrative support across the organization, welcoming guests and greeting people who visit the location(s), and coordinating front-desk activities, including distributing correspondence and redirecting phone calls. This role requires an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and a commitment to providing outstanding service.

As the Receptionist, your positive attitude and excellent communication skills will enhance our organization's image and our visitors' experiences. Your role is pivotal in creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere for all guests and staff members. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Visitor Reception: Greet and welcome guests upon their arrival at the office, while providing a warm and welcoming environment. Direct them to the appropriate person or meeting room as necessary. Provide basic information to guests and the public about WSCAH's programs, services, and events. Assist in managing flow of visitors inside the warehouse facility.
Communication Management : Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls, ensuring professional and courteous communication. Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail and deliveries. **
Administrative Support:** Provide basic administrative support as needed, such as scheduling, maintaining calendars, photocopying, faxing, filing, and purchasing and maintaining office supplies inventory. Organizing and maintaining electronic and paper filing systems. Assisting in the preparation and coordination of meetings, taking minutes as required.
Office Coordination: Maintain a tidy and organized reception, kitchen, and overall office area and coordinate with the facility's cleaning vendor. Ensure all visitors adhere to safety protocols and guidelines by following WSCAH policies and procedures. Assist in managing the flow of visitors inside the warehouse facility.
Information Provision: Provide accurate information in-person and via phone/email. This may include information about the organization, directions, or general inquiries.
****Preferred Qualifications :
● High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
● At least 2 years of experience in a similar role
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
● High level of professionalism and strong customer service skills
● Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
● Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
