    The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Virtual Summer Internship to a qualified candidate who will support the Public and Patient Engagement team. This paid internship is a full-time, temporary employment opportunity averaging 40 hours per week for a postgraduate student. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.     PAY RANGE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

    Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits. 

    Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour.

    The Public and Patient Engagement team is seeking an intern to provide broad support to the Public and Patient Engagement Team (PPE) in support of PCORI’s mission to produce high-integrity and evidence-based information driven by patients and other healthcare stakeholders. The PPE team works collaboratively across PCORI programmatic activities to support of the following:

    • Building, strengthening, and maintaining stakeholder relationships with PCORI.
    • Promoting stakeholder engagement activities inclusive of key decision makers and end-users as drivers, informants, and validators to inform PCORI’s approach and investments; and
    • Advancing engagement science and practice.

    The intern will be responsible for supporting stakeholder engagement efforts under the Stakeholder Team within the Public and Patient Engagement Team. The intern responsibilities will ultimately support their understanding of PCOR, the diversity of stakeholder organizations involved in the PCOR enterprise and broader healthcare landscape, and key initiatives within PCORI to promote stakeholder engagement in the research lifecycle. These work streams include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

    • Collating and synthesizing stakeholder data and information to inform the development of tailored PCORI content for stakeholder convenings (e.g., virtual roundtables, Town Halls, Annual Meeting).
    • Informing strategic planning and team activities by populating documents and databases aimed at systematically tracking and evaluating stakeholder organization priorities and their experiences in engaging in PCORI projects.
    • Coordinating ongoing activities under the PCORI Ambassador Program as well as ad hoc activities:

    o Drafting content and coordinating timelines for bimonthly Ambassador Program “Call to Action” newsletters,

    o Coordinating monthly Ambassador “coffee break” webinars,

    o Facilitating community discussion boards through Yammer,

    o Drafting program announcements and general email communications to Ambassadors,

    o Developing, analyzing, and synthesizing program surveys from “Call to Action” newsletters and other sources for internal and external audiences,

    o Coordinating monthly Ambassador Center updates across departments, and

    o Coordinating all Ambassador Center “Requests to Connect” on an ongoing basis.

     

    Required Skills

     

     

    The Public and Patient Engagement team is seeking an intern that will meet the following requirements:

    • Candidates have experience with the policy, healthcare or research priorities of key stakeholder communities, such as patient/consumer organizations, clinicians, payers, or others.

    • Candidates have strong written communication skills and experience drafting content for varied audiences

    • Candidates have experience with advocacy efforts, community coalitions, and/or volunteer management within the healthcare and research fields.

    • Candidates have studied community coalition theory, grassroots movement theory, and/or volunteer management.

    • Candidates have an understanding of PCOR, CER, and patient and stakeholder engagement methods and practices through education or professional opportunities.

    • Candidates have interned, volunteered, or worked for organization(s) with programs similar to the PCORI Ambassador Program preferred.

    • Strong written, oral, and communication skills.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

    • Experience with volunteer or customer management systems (e.g. SalesForce) preferred.

    • Experience with virtual webinar platforms, such as LogMeIn products (GoToWebinar, GoToMeeting, etc.), Microsoft Teams, Mentimeter, Padlet, and etc.

     

    Required Experience

    Ideal candidates will be pursuing their postgraduate education in one of the following areas: Social Science, Social Work, Health Policy; Public Policy, Public Health, Public Administration, Health Sciences, or related field.

    Applications for the PCORI Summer Internship Program will be accepted up to 8:00pm EST on March 22. Applicants who are chosen will be phone screened by PCORI Human Resources. Virtual interviews at PCORI with relevant intern supervisors will take place from April 12 - April 23.
