Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Wheel Lathe Operator to support maintenance operations by ensuring train wheels are accurately reprofiled and ready for service. This role involves operating precision machining equipment, performing quality checks, and maintaining strict safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor wheel lathe machines to reprofile train wheels to specification
• Perform precise measurements, machine setup, and adjustments based on engineering drawings
• Inspect finished work to ensure proper dimensions, surface quality, and compliance with standards
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform routine preventative maintenance
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, measurements, and machine settings
• Follow all safety policies and procedures in a heavy industrial environment
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors on shift progress and issues
• Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

• Experience operating machinery in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read technical drawings and schematics
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality work
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve basic equipment issues
• Strong safety awareness
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
• Good communication skills (written and verbal)

Preferred:

• Experience with wheel lathes or CNC machinery
• Background in rail, heavy equipment, or precision machining environments
• Vocational training or certification in machining, maintenance, or a related field
