SUMMARY:
The Underwriting Manager position provides will be managing people with different designations. Needs to have a good understanding of the California market and the complexities involved. Managing the Wholesale channel and with exposure to Retail and Correspondence as well. Wholesale experience is a must
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide guidance and direction to the operations team within the assigned channel(s)
- Manage staff by communicating and directing job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and initiating, coordinating and enforcing policies and procedures
- Recruit, select, orientate, and train employees; evaluate and address staff productivity and performance; and develop personal growth opportunities for team members
- Delegate workflows and oversee pipelines to ensure all deadlines are met and high customer service levels are maintained
- Address and resolve escalated issues as needed
- Develop policies and procedures for assigned area(s), evaluating, and updating processes as needed
- Establish metrics that drive and measure staff and department performance
- Compile reports, identify trends, and provide recommendations to senior management regarding opportunities to increase efficiencies and productivity, and implement changes
- Partner with the Sales team in an ongoing effort to build strong relationships
- Analyze process controls to ensure accurate, complete, and timely procedures, and escalate inconsistencies and problems as necessary
- Maintain current working knowledge of the procedures and mortgage lending guidelines and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- 7+ years of related mortgage industry experience within the desired channel(s)
- Prior experience supervising staff
- MUST have experience managing Front Line Underwriters (not servicing)
- Active DE CHUMS and LAPP SAR certifications/designations
- NMLS license or ability to obtain license within 90 days of employment
- Broad-based knowledge of the mortgage industry, including detailed knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines and regulations (RESPA, REG B, HMDA, FHA, VA, Conventional, and other products offered)
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in all channels and products
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to problem-solve and develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles
- Ability to interface with other departments to resolve issues as applicable
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and support staff while effectively communicating the business policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain a customer focus and efficiently and consistently produce accurate work in both individual and team settings
- Solid knowledge of computer systems including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
