RESPONSIBILITIES:

PEER SUPPORT SPECIALISTS AID IN OTHERS RECOVERY BY PROVIDING VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT:

1.  The recovery process
2. Symptom management
3. Resources for assistance, which includes providing foul weather gear, tents, clothing etc.
4. Harm Reduction
5. Advocating for the individual
6. Aiding in self determination
7. Rehabilitation
8. Seeking support services
9. Provide harm reduction and other supplies as needed

THE PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST PERFORMS A WIDE RANGE OF TASKS TO ASSIST CLIENTS IN REGAINING INDEPENDENCE AND MASTERY OVER CHEMICAL DEPENDENCE AND OFFERS EMPATHY, SUPPORT AND ADVICE AS CHALLENGES PRESENT THEMSELVES. SERVICES WILL BE PROVIDED IN A WIDE VARIETY OF SETTINGS IN THE COMMUNITY SUCH AS:

o Professional and private facilities

o Clients’ homes

o Offices and clinics

o Self-help groups

o White Bird’s Measure 110 Hub

Have completed AMH approved training for Peer Support and be a Certified Recovery Mentor or Traditional Health Worker, approved by the State of Oregon

Individual must be a person who has progressed in their own recovery from substance use or mental health issues and is willing to self-identify as a peer and work to assist individuals with chemical dependency and/or mental health issues.

Possess a valid Oregon driver’s license
