    TITLE: Engineer I DEPARTMENT: Bridge LOCATION: Harrisburg, PA REQUISITION NUMBER: 18-22-001 DUTIES:The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all-encompassing.nbsp; Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule.Design structural components of bridges and related structuresDesign structural components of box culverts, retaining walls and related structuresDevelop details of bridge components for contract drawingsCalculate quantities and develop construction cost estimatesReview shop drawingsPerform bridge inspections Write Bridge Inspection Reports and perform condition ratingsPerform Load RatingsDesign and/or inspect other types of structures such as light standards, sign supports, etc.The Engineer I will work closely with Project Engineers to assist with the design of transportation structures. The Engineer will be overseen by a professional engineer. He/she should be self-motivated, eager to learn and take on responsibility as it is provided to him/her, and have effective written and oral communication skills. The candidate should be able to work closely with others in a team oriented environment. EXPERIENCE:nbsp; 0-2 years experience nbsp; Skills: Must have a general understanding of structural engineering principles.Must be knowledgeable and proficient in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office.nbsp; Should have a general understanding of engineering software and its capabilities.Should have a general understanding of design codes such as AASHTO, ACI, AISC, PCI, etc.Knowledge of Microstation a plus. EDUCATION:nbsp; A minimum of a B.S. in Civil Engineering.nbsp; M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS:Both office and field work.nbsp; Lifting +/-30lbs.nbsp; Field work involves bridge inspection or construction site visits which may consist of working at heights, climbing, being adjacent to traffic, being in a boat, and working in confined spaces.nbsp; Field work may be required during any season.nbsp; Field work may involve being in brush with exposure to insects, snakes, and/or wild animals.nbsp; Must be able to lift ladders, assist in moving boats, and perform other light physical activity.nbsp; Inspections may be scheduled at night or on weekends.nbsp; Travel with overnight stay may be required occasionally. Occasional response to emergency situations at any time of day may be expected.
