Wichita Collegiate School (WCS), a thriving Independent School located in Wichita, KS, will have teaching opportunities on our Lower School (Grades 1-4) team for the 2024/25 school year. Our Lower School teachers are responsible for teaching a class of 12-16 students. Our teachers get excited about preparing for and delivering engaging learning experiences that are consistent with the scope and sequence outlined by WCS and that spark curiosity in our students.

Our teachers place students at the center of all teaching and learning to ensure the best educational experience for each student. They are willing to support WCS beyond the classroom with time and talents to expand the student experience beyond the classroom. Their curiosity for learning drives a commitment to professional growth, and they actively participate in school-lead professional development activities (including faculty meetings). Collegiate educators share a commitment to doing whatever tasks necessary to enhance the student experience.

Our teachers come from varied backgrounds but share a sense of responsibility for delivering high-quality instruction to students. Our Lower School teacher will have a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Three years of classroom experience is preferred; advanced education or relevant professional experience may be substituted for the classroom experience.

At WCS, we value individual differences and foster opportunities for conversation, acceptance, and celebration of diverse cultures, belief systems, and backgrounds. Our teachers provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment for our students, have a forward-thinking approach to education, and enjoy the process of challenging educational norms and trying new ways to teach.

    • A willingness for experiential/project-based learning and innovative thinking.

Work Environment: Lower School teachers are all over campus and will need to be able to navigate campus grounds while maintaining order over students. Teachers will be asked to lift up to 15 pounds on occasion. Teachers are expected to work at the students' level as needed, this may include sitting on the floor, bending, or squatting.

All Collegiate Educators are expected to be on campus from August 1 through May 31. During the school year, school hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm; the classroom schedule varies by department. Faculty members are expected to participate in school activities to foster our sense of community; this may include time outside school hours.
