We are looking for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (preference for those with experience working with upstream animal cell culture process/bioreactor). You will be a member of the Science Team and have the unique opportunity to contribute to the work of cell-based pet food development. In this role, you will support the team with day-to-day project tasks including the upstream animal cell culture process. 

This position is based in our Berkeley office and will report directly to the Scientific Director.

Responsibilities:

• Understand and execute cell culture protocols, optimize upstream cell culture processes for cellular biomass production.
• Perform and optimize experiments to scientifically improve animal cell culture scalability.
• Follow/conduct/develop protocols for various animal cells in a bioreactor, and suspension culture.
• Understand and interpret experiment results and recommend new designs or adjust existing designs.
• Knowledge to understand downstream cell culture work to carry out regular cell maintenance.
• Accurately follow and respond to directions, especially the maintenance of documentation standards and SOP and report batch records.
• General maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Life Science or related field.
• 2-4 years of research experience in the industrial or academic lab settings or PhD in Life Science/Biology or related field with 1-2 years of experience.
• Experience in the upstream cell culture process.
• Working experience in bench-scale bioreactors.
• Experience in animal cell culture, and knowledge in stem cell culture.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to adapt to the new working environment and new protocols, and to troubleshoot lab research conditions.
• Team-oriented, resourceful, results-driven, and with thorough attention to detail.
