    JOB LISTING: CONTROLLER (TEMP POSITION)

    The Controller is responsible for all aspects of the accounting operations including financial reporting, audits, cash management, risk management and tax reporting/administration. In addition, the Controller is also expected to be heavily involved with various independent projects such as tax planning (US and Canada), Enterprise Resource Planning system implementation and assistance with lab software selection and implementation. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Mentor and manage a group of 4 direct and indirect reports responsible for financial reporting, operational reporting, general ledger maintenance, invoicing, month end close and financial system maintenance
    • Oversee and play an active, hands-on role in the financial and month end close cycle
    • Manage the preparation and review of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements with associated MD&A
    • Ensure all transactions are accounted for in accordance with IFRS standards
    • Manage and maintain the accounting records of the organization to facilitate the timely and accurate reporting of financial data
    • Evaluate and maintain accounting policies and procedures
    • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting functions
    • Develop and provide management with key metrics associated with making business decisions monthly
    • Assist with tax planning and transfer payment study for Canadian and US subsidiaries
    • Perform payroll and cash maintenance functions
    • Coordinate external audits (interim and annual), liaise with external auditors
    • Ensure proper internal controls are in place
    • Develop and implement systems and processes to drive efficiencies and automation

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • Build effective partnerships with individuals throughout the organization
    • Respond to ad hoc requests and other duties as required
    • Proven experience as a financial controller or similar role
    • External audit experience
    • Corporate public company reporting experience, thorough knowledge of IFRS
    • Be a CPA in good standing with their respective regulatory group
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Be able to work independently and collaboratively with a team
    • Be able to handle multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
    • Be detail-oriented, analytical, and possess superior problem-solving skills

    POSITION TYPE:

    • Full-time, Temporary Position

    REPORTS TO:

    • Chief Financial Officer

    LOCATION:

    • Calgary or Burnaby Office

    TRAVEL 

    • Approximately 10% (post-COVID-19)
