    Shenandoah University is accepting applications for an Assistant Technical Director / Scene Shop Supervisor for the Shenandoah Conservatory. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    1. Provide a consistent presence in the shop to supervise students and ensure shop safety and safety training.
    2. Provide Technical Direction or Assistant Technical Direction for a 6-show academic year season. This individual will be TD on at least 2 shows per academic season.
    3. Maintain and prioritize tool repair and acquisition, and help oversee shop maintenance overall.
    4. Maintain and restock shop supplies
    5. Teach in an area of specialty if appropriate /needed up to one class per term.
    6. Provide additional technical support for special events in Ohrstrom-Bryant and Glaize Studio Theatres.

     

    Required Skills

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    A skilled individual with a minimum BFA (MFA preferred) in Theatrical Design and Production or equivalent experience in professional and academic settings in order to accomplish the following; help provide a safe working environment in the scene shop and theatres, supervise students as part of their laboratory assignments, assist students with production assignments in properties, scenic construction, scenic art and technical direction and join an intensive collaborative Conservatory environment. This individual must have a working knowledge of shop and tool safety, scenery construction techniques, stage rigging, scenic art, and stage properties. Teaching opportunities within the area of expertise may be available to the appropriate candidate.
