    The Application Security Intern, reports to the Supervisor of Application Security within the organization of the VP of IT and is responsible for helping to drive and execute best-in-class application security practices within MiTek. This intern will learn and help execute daily activities related to application security including performing application security testing, enabling web application firewalls, reviewing and enforcing application security requirements, assisting with promoting best practices with regards to secure coding and secure application delivery, assisting with remediation, and engaging with various teams with regards to application security. A successful candidate will demonstrate competencies in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity, modern web application development (e.g., Angular JS, JavaScript, Swift), object oriented programming (e.g., .NET, Java), application architecture and frameworks (e.g., Spring, Struts), application security industry best practices (e.g., ISO, OWASP, NIST, SANS), application vulnerability types, threat vectors and remediation approaches, development methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile), application security testing tools (e.g., SAST, DAST, WAF), familiarity with APIs for integration, process documentation, relational database design and access (e.g., Oracle, SQL), and vulnerability management.

    • Assist in maintaining a robust and effective cyber-security program with a focus on application security.
    • Assist in developing application specific threat models to identify security flaws and provide guidance on application specific risks and controls.
    • Assist in performing Lunch and Learns on Application Security.
    • Support application security team as well as development teams to design and implement processes and/or tools for secure code reviews and security testing.
    • Assist with vulnerability response by performing analysis, determining scope and impact, and assisting with remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
    • Perform application analysis and help define web application firewall polices to mitigate exploits.
    • Support operational readiness reviews and help with enforcing security requirements within projects and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
    • Help engage with MiTek teams regarding application security, best practices, secure coding, etc.
    • Support operational readiness reviews with regards to application security.
    • Help team in maintaining and using application security tools such as web application firewalls, code scanning and code review tools, application vulnerability scanners, etc.
    • Assist in executing static, dynamic, and software composition analysis scans.
    • Help application security team maintain knowledge of current developments in secure coding practices, vulnerabilities, security testing techniques, and tools.
    • Assist application security team in automating processes and services executed.
    • Help develop and promote enterprise-wide security reference architecture, frameworks and standards in the Software Development Lifecycle.
    • Help interpret risks and impacts within the digital IT and cybersecurity environment.
    • Research and stay up to date on emerging threats and security controls, and share knowledge and best practice information with the team.
    • Assist with application security standards and process documentation.
    • Assist with developing/providing metrics and reporting to measure application security.
    • Performs other duties as required.
