  • Responsibilities

     

    Position Summary:

    Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

    Primary Duties:

    • Performs visual inspections of power boilers, HRSG’s and ASME BPVC equipment.
    • Provides subject matter expertise and recommendations for the maintenance of power boilers and HRSG’s.
    • Performs interpretations to Codes, standards and rules as necessary for the maintenance of power boilers and HRSG’s.
    • Provides guidance to the generating fleet for boiler Code Repairs.
    • Utilizes Quality Control Manual, associated documentation and repair reports.
    • Consulted for Quality Control and R-Stamp recommendations.
    • Creates and updates engineering standards, policies, guidelines and ensures procedures are in place for compliance with these policies.
    • Communicate with regulatory bodies and government agencies.
    • Acts as a resource and mentor for members with less experience, may direct the technical complexities of work.
    • Provides technical presentations to staff.
    • Functions as quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects.
    • Assures that all design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations.
    • Reviews and critiques proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines.
    • Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices.
    • Conducts surveys to gather field data.
    • Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
    • Prepares engineering analysis for small/routine projects to include: preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection.
    • Assists upper level engineers as directed while developing specialized engineering skills.
    • Supports company safety programs and initiatives by following all EHS and Operating procedures and adhering to established design standards.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or PE.
    • Five (5) years directly related experience as an Engineer.
    • Five (5) years of directly related experience with power boilers.
    • Valid State Driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience referencing and interpreting ASME BPVC’s, NBIC, ASME B31.1 and other ASME Codes.
    • Experience with Quality Control and Repair Stamp (R-Stamp) programs.
    • Experience with nondestructive testing methods relevant to the inspection and repair of power boilers and HRSG’s.
    • Experience with weld inspections.
    • Experience with SAP.

    Working Conditions:

    • Requires travel, including travel to fleet-wide power facilities.
    • May be required to work non-standard hours, holidays, and schedules to include on-call and call-outs.
    • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
    • Required to work at heights up to and exceeding one hundred (100) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
