    Job Description:

    Our data link test team is searching for a talented and motivated Linux Systems Administrator to join our team and play a crucial role in managing and maintaining our Linux-based systems. If you are passionate about Linux systems and want to work in a collaborative and innovative fast paced environment, this is the place for you. We provide several opportunities to learn, ranging from on-the-job training with other team members to formal courses for unique technology areas.

    This position provides support to the 96 Cyber Test Group, 46 Test Squadron, Data Link Test Flight at Eglin AFB as a member of an advanced programs team responsible for planning, designing, and executing test events for tactical communications systems. This is NOT a telework or remote position; however, telework opportunities may be authorized as mission requirements allow. This position includes the following:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Linux System Administration: Manage and maintain Linux systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
    • Performance Tuning: Conduct performance analysis and optimization of Linux and Windows systems and applications.
    • Security Hardening: Harden systems through advanced SE Linux security configurations, STIGs, and vulnerability scanning.
    • Security: Implement and maintain security best practices to protect our systems and data.
    • Docker Containerization: Create and manage Docker containers for deploying applications and services.
    • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Implement monitoring tools and proactively identify and resolve system issues.
    • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures.
    • Automation: Automate routine tasks and processes using scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) and configuration management tools.
    • Networking Expertise: Configure and troubleshoot advanced networking and firewall configurations.
    • Log Management: Implement centralized logging and analysis for system and application logs.
    • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to support development, testing, and deployment processes.
    • Emerging Technologies: Stay updated on emerging Operating systems and DevOps technologies and recommend their adoption where applicable.

    Required Experience:

    One of the following combinations is required:

    • Bahelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 3-10 years of related technical experience.
    • Associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 7-12 years of related technical experience.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 9-16 years of related technical experience
    • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance adjudicated within five years required.
    • U.S. citizenship.
    • DoD 8570.01-M with a current and active certification of at least IAT II (i.e., CompTIA Security+).
    • Analytical skills and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent self-initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work effectively in small and large team settings to solve complex problems.
    • Capable of traveling to contractors' facilities, test sites, and other locations, both CONUS and OCONUS. Travel is on average is 25% of total time worked.
    • Good organization, decision making, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office products to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Manage and maintain Linux systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
    • Conduct performance analysis and optimization of Linux and Windows systems and applications.
    • Harden systems using SE Linux security configurations, STIGs, and vulnerability scanners.
    • Create and manage Docker containers for deploying applications and services.
    • Technical experience in areas of Windows software systems and hardware integration.

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • Experience working in a Special Access Program environment.
    • Relevant technical experience in the areas of Windows software systems and hardware integration testing.
    • An understanding of DOD developmental test and evaluation processes
    • Experience using interpreted languages (Python, Ruby, JavaScript, PHP, etc.).
