    Our Omaha, NE office is currently seeking a full-time Structural or Civil Engineer to lead our Rail Facilities team. The person hired for this position will be responsible for the business operations within the company; this includes the goals, needs, and performance of all projects and staff associated with the area they are assigned to. The main focus in this role will be in marketing, business development, and sales to support the growth of Wilson & Company’s existing practice in facility engineering for industries and Class I railroad facility markets.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    •  Manage staff resources, ensuring revenue and profitability targets, and ensuring that our projects are executed with a high level of quality and technical excellence.
    • Seek value added components for personal and professional growth focused on company improvement.
    • Attract and recruit high end talent to the company with the ability to retain, develop, and promote.
    • Achieve labor sales of at least twice the operation’s annual total labor.
    • Achieve compliance with the company’s goal setting and review policies, quality control and quality assurance standards, and contract review standards.
    • Initiate quality and process improvements while seeking out methods for cost reduction.
    • Maintain strong and proactive relationships with all functional areas of the operation to deliver optimal product solutions to the customer.
    • Provide overall support and training to the team as well as the entire organization.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     

    DELIVERING PROJECTS

    •  Identify technical standards and provisions for compliance.
    • Review and approve all project plans.
    • Ensure compliance with contracts, quality control, and quality assurance policies.
    • Ensure all QA/QC efforts are complete in accordance with accepted plan for each project.
    • Ensure quality management with implementation of quality control standards.
    • Demonstrate sound engineering principles and a structured analytical approach to problem solving.

     

    FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

    • Ensure compliance with contract review process.
    • Review and approve all contracts, including terms, schedule, scope, and fee.
    • Gather and monitor project financials for entire operations. Mentor staff for understanding.
    • Ensure compliance with billings and collections processes and goals

     

    PERSONAL & PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT

    •  Mentor and direct the daily activities of the team while identifying their training needs.
    • Guide team to work within the structure of standardized product development and project management processes.
    • Monitor and measure project performance and report project status to management team.
    • Promote and cultivate innovation and champion continuous improvement.
    • Participate in conferences and/or workshops within the industry.
    • Establish and maintain an effective staff through performance appraisals, staffing, and developing technical competence.
    • Continuous focus on collaboration and a One Company approach to working together across the entire company.
    • Provide technical guidance, direction in technical reviews, training, risk assessment, and root cause analysis to the team and throughout the entire organization.
    • Make appropriate recommendations regarding scope and resource requirements of projects.

    Required Skills

     

    •  Effective communication skills - both verbal and written.
    • Broad understanding of engineering principles required
    • Skilled in project management, managing technical professionals, and demonstrated ability to lead and direct multiple multidiscipline concurrent projects.

    Required Experience

     

    • Fifteen years of experience with an advanced degree in a related area of Civil or Structural Engineering.
    • Professional Engineer licensed with the ability to obtain licenses in other states, within 12 months is preferred.
    • Candidate must have established & proven relationships with industries or Class I railroad facilities.
    • Significant experience that demonstrates successful management and financial responsibility of the engineering business.
    • Excellence in managing project pursuits, preparing proposals, and working with marketing staff.
    • Experience with recruiting high end talent
    • Must be comfortable with frequent travelling
