    Location: Ho Chunk Renaissance located in Winnebago, NE 68071

    Job Purpose & Position Overview:

    The Instruction Coordinator is one-third of the curriculum development team. The Instruction Coordinator upholds the responsibility of coordinating with the Ho-Chunk Renaissance staff, other resources and community members to enhance the capacity of the program. The position will plan curricula, train teachers and address student/staff needs throughout the language learning process. The position will implement the program’s goals and objectives by providing the essential training tools for staff members to manage a classroom and implement all forms of instruction methodologies. The Instruction Coordinator will also promote and contribute to the stability and success of the Ho-Chunk Renaissance program by designing, implementing, and completing a Ho-Chunk language curriculum suitable for all ages.

    Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.

    Assist designated language instructors in prepping for classroom instruction including lesson planning and material development.

    Coordinate scheduling for HoChunk language classes in annual school year in all local school systems.

    Co-lead the development of curricula, materials and teaching aids suitable for preschool onto adult learner levels.

    Assess and observe designated language instructors periodically on instruction in classrooms.

    Coordinate the assessment of the various language classes, including pre-tests and post-tests, and creation of pertinent materials.

    Plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate the goals and objectives of the HoChunk language curriculum development.

    Evaluate the HoChunk curriculum for authenticity, relevance, meaning and current content.

    Develop with input from the language instructors and other fluent speakers, curriculum materials for language instruction for all ages and levels of fluency.

    Develop language competency assessment tools, criteria and monitoring policies and procedures.

    Inventory and inventory control on all curriculum materials and supplies.

    Maintain current up-to-date information about national and state Indian language preservation issues.

    Research Internet (and other) repositories for other second language acquisition models and methods, fluency and learning assessment tools and incorporating them into language curricula and language program structure.

    Interview elders for language resource materials and curriculum development.

    Supervise designated language instructors.

    Responsible for learning to read and write the HoChunk language utilizing the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and English phonetic alphabet.

    Attend departmental staff meetings or other training as needed.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related area is required.

    Job related experience in program planning, management and related skills in the area of tribal customs, history and values.

    Knowledge of HoChunk language, tribal traditions and values.

    Must have a reasonable mastery of the English language and be able to write independently.

    Experience in curriculum design from pre-school to adult levels.

    Computer literacy and proficiency in the IPA writing system will be considered a plus.

    Must be able to work with little supervision in completing the goals and objectives of the program.

    Must be willing to receive training on teaching methodologies and take an active role on improving personal teaching skills.

    Must be dependable, possess initiative and be self-motivated.

    Must have a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation and be insured

    Must be willing to submit a background check as mandated by the Tribal Policies and Procedures of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

    In some instances, applicant must be willing to work amended work schedules and work with children for research purposes.

    Must have reliable transportation and be insurable or maintain insurance.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Ability to supervise departmental employees

    Training Requirements:

    Must be willing to pursue professional certification and/or training as directed

    Physical Requirements:

    Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

    Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

    While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

    Reasoning/Analysis

    Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.

    Language Requirements:

    Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

    Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
