    Location: Educare Program located in Winnebago, Nebraska

    Job Purpose & Position Overview:

    Plans menus in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements and in accordance with Head Start performance standards keeping budgetary concerns in mind. Plans classroom nutrition experience with the assistance of the Health Coordinator and teaching staff. Has primary responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area and necessary utensils.

    Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.

    Will prepare breakfast, snack and lunch in compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program daily requirements.

    Will serve meals family style in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.

    Has complete understanding of the Child Care Food Program (CACFP) and its reporting requirements.

    Will employ sanitation, cleanliness, and food storage techniques endorsed by the CACFP

    Will take daily temperatures of the fridge, food before it is sent to the classrooms and keep records according to the CACFP regulations.

    Must have a physical examination and a tuberculin test annually.

    Will keep and be accountable for and inventory of foods in accordance with CACFP. Inventory & date all food items in the kitchen area.

    Works in coordination with teaching staff in planning nutritional experiences related to the Education and Nutrition components of Head Start.

    Will take annual inventory of Nutrition component equipment and materials.

    Orders nutritional and economical groceries that are low in fat, sugar, and high in nutrients according to the menu keeping budgetary concerns in mind.

    Work with distributers to order proper amount of foods needed for each meal.

    Provide a 6 week menu cycle for approval by a nutritionist or dietician.

    Signs all grocery receipts after verifying items listed.

    Will supervise the dishwasher/cooks aide.

    Will evaluate employee under supervision.

    Will perform other job related duties as assigned.

    Will present a professional image in the food preparation areas at all times.

    Attend training as requested or required.

    Plans to attend staff meetings and program coordinators meetings as scheduled.

    Understands and adheres to the chain of command of the Head Start Program and of the Tribal Organization.

    Understands and adheres to the Policies and Procedures of the Educare Winnebago Head Start Programs.

    Handles confidential information with discretion. Information about all children, families, and Head Start related activities must be kept confidential.

    Presents a positive image for Head Start in the community.

    Will complete production records at the time of preparation, detailing the amounts of food prepared, daily counts, ingredients used.

    Weekly cleaning check list completed included cleaning fridges/ freezers, dishwasher, stove and oven.

    Food inventory monitored closely, organization of pantry.

    Classrooms are equip with the proper materials, utensils needed for the meal served according to the menu.

    Notify supervisor of any safety concerns, supply shortage, menu changes and monthly report.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    Must have high school diploma or GED.

    Must be in excellent physical health and good mental health.

    Must possess or be able to obtain Food Handler’s Certificate as soon as possible.

    Must have a personality that is conductive to working with small children, their families and staff.

    Must be of good moral character.

    Must convey strong communication skills.

    Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the tribe’s insurance.

    Training Requirements:

    Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested.

    Physical Requirements:

    Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

    Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

    While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

    Mental Requirements:

    Reading, writing, calculating

    Above average social interaction skills

    Reasoning/Analysis

    Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.

    Language Requirements:

    Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

    Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

    Certificates, Licenses & registrations:

    All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
