    Job Purpose & Position Overview:

    The Community Outreach Coordinator will primarily be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific assigned projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. The position will also consist of creating, managing and implementing campaigns with the goal of enriching the program’s position within the public eye and tribal membership within the Winnebago Tribe. The position will continue to strive in obtaining positive recognition by performing assessments, collecting data and upholding statistics for language program locally, regionally and nationally.

    Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.

    Demonstrate effective communication, decision-making, leadership, critical thinking, analytical, research, information and computer literacy, strategic planning, problem solving and time management skills.

    Responsible for interacting and corresponding with the general public, tribal membership, community members, students, and other tribal employees with tact, courtesy, respect, objectivity and maturity.

    Responsible for strategic planning with program staff to implement innovative language and cultural-oriented activities targeting community and tribal membership.

    Coordinator for all program sponsored social event gatherings and projects from conception to implementation, and completion for the Ho-Chunk Renaissance program.

    Responsible in coordinating incoming requests for program participation in any organizational or tribal sponsored activities. Including organizational forums, events, camps, meetings, (cultural) activities.

    Assist to establish partnerships and collaborations with Winnebago tribal programs and community organizations.

    Must implement methodologies and creative strategies to strengthen language awareness in local community and for tribal membership. Including but not limited to, coordinating special organizational events for language material disbursement, display of language revitalization of signs, billboards, etc.

    Responsible for coordinating language material disbursement and ordering incentive items (shirts, bags etc.) for disbursement. Including recording a company log of inventory.

    Responsible for overseeing development, organizing, and planning of community language learning course(s) including, but not limited to, hoit’e coni na classes.

    Responsible for obtaining and fulfilling incoming requests from tribal membership and/or community for cultural information and/or language materials.

    Participate in planning sessions to advance technology in language revitalization efforts. Involves researching trends for new digital activities for language instruction.

    Participate in curriculum development meetings to align efforts to develop and determine strategies to improve language learning for tribal membership and community.

    Must incorporate Ho-Chunk language in all events and activities.

    Work in conjunction with eminent speakers, teachers, and staff to seek translations and interpretations for all language activities.

    Coordinate with Media & Design Specialists to produce organizational articles, flyers, ads for WIN and other local newspapers.

    Learn to speak the Ho-Chunk language through building vocabulary, phonology and syntax. Participation in language learning assessments and activities is required.

    Responsible for learning to read and write the Ho-Chunk language utilizing the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and English phonetic alphabet.

    Supervise designated program staff members.

    Submit required reports in a timely manner.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    Minimum requirement of an Associate degree in Communication, Native American Studies, Public Relations or related field and a minimum (2) years of progressive work experience or managerial experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    Knowledge of Winnebago culture and traditions is highly desirable and a willingness to learn is required.

    Must possess customer service focus, strong organizational skills, be detail oriented, and self-directed.

    Knowledge of office procedures including standard office machines, general clerical experience, and skill involving the public or equivalent experience that provides relevant abilities and skills.

    Must be computer literate with knowledge of MS software, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

    Ability to work with minimum supervision in completing the goals and objective of the program.

    Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Possess the ability to work efficiently with a wide variety of people in environment.

    Must have a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proper insurance or access to dependable transportation.

    Must be able to travel if required.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Ability to supervise departmental employees

    Training Requirements:

    Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested.

    Physical Requirements:

    Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

    Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

    While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

    Mental Requirements:

    Reading, writing, calculating

    Above average social interaction skills

    Reasoning/Analysis

    Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.

    Language Requirements:

    Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

    Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
